Summary of Position

The Director of Grant Development is responsible for providing vision, leadership, coordination, and technical assistance for grants development throughout the College. This position collaborates across all levels of the college and with community stakeholders to secure and manage external resources that support the mission, vision, and values of the College. This position works closely with the Associate Vice President and College Executive Leadership.
The Grants Development Director is responsible for helping to develop, implement, facilitate, and monitor grants programming college wide. This position conducts research on and evaluates grant opportunities, ensures the successful implementation of the college’s grant programs, monitors ongoing progress to ensure project outcomes are met, prepares and submits grant reports in coordination with project directors, and supervises the work of external grant writers developing proposals for the college.

Work is generally performed at the Lakewood campus, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. May require hours outside of regular office hours, such as occasional night and weekend hours. May require travel between campuses. Attendance at various off campus events and some travel may be required.

A successful candidate possesses effective communication skills, and is at ease with the following:


  • Grants & Project Management: Understands and executes the various stages of the grant lifecycle. Recognizes factors that influence the grants process. Creates and maintains an environment that guides a project to its successful completion.
  • Planning and Prioritization: Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements. Coordinates with others in response to multiple, competing demands to ensure work is completed in a timely manner. Readily readjusts priorities to respond to pressing and changing demands.
  • Technical Writing: Designs format and content to optimally convey intended messages to target audiences with clarity and precision. Applies a thorough understanding of grammar and sentence structure.

 

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to access, compile, and analyze data for effective decision making.
  • Ability to utilize technology to develop, coordinate, and submit grant applications and excellent computer skills.
  • Effective communication skills to support interaction with diverse internal and external constituents. Proficiency in communicating across all levels of an organization.
  • Effective writing and editing skills, and attention to detail to produce professional proposals and materials.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Skilled at convening groups and building partnerships with various employee groups and external constituents.
  • Ability to create an inclusive learning and work environment and demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency and ability to use Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to work from campus daily (primarily our Lakewood campus with occasional hours at the Arvada campus).
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Communication, or a related field from an accredited institution. An equivalent combination of education and work experience may substitute for the degree requirement a year for year basis.
  • Three years relevant experience.
  • Professional experience with program/project development.
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment while meeting pressing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated success with complex grant proposal development, writing and submission.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse communities and supporting individuals from diverse populations, which may include but are not limited to, racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in public administration, business administration or a relevant field from an accredited institution.
  • Higher education or public administration work experience.
  • Pre- and post-award grant experience and experience writing grants.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit organizations.
Physical & Cognitive Demands
The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.
  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Starting Salary Starting salary range for this position is $70,043 to $77,048, commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
