Position: Executive Director

I. Summary

The Executive Director, in accordance with the objectives, policies and directives set forth by the affiliate Board of Directors provides overall executive leadership for the Affiliate and ReStore. Responsibilities include supervision and mentoring of paid staff, maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure of the affiliate, serving as the primary communication link among directors, officers, committees and volunteers, partner families, networking with community services, serving as the public face and corporate spokesperson, and providing the necessary follow-up to ensure that the whole organization runs smoothly and effectively while carrying out the goals and objectives of our mission.

 

II. Position Description

Reports to: Executive Committee of the Board of Directors, specifically Board Chairperson and to the Board of Directors overall. The Executive Committee will solicit input from the entire Board of Directors in performing an annual review of the Executive Director.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience, with at least 5 years experience in not-for-profit management or other relevant management experience.

Requirements/Skills: Must be able to effectively communicate the organization’s mission, values and goals. Must possess business acumen, fundraising, leadership, and public relations skills and abilities. Must be organized, able to meet deadlines, and able to manage multiple projects and competing priorities. Must possess the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people. Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel are required. Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field, including training provided by HFHI.

Employee Status: Exempt Position (Salaried)

Hours: 40-hour per week salaried position that also requires additional evening and weekend work.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and education.

 

III. Responsibilities

Administration and Management (approximately 50% of time)

  • Act as the chief administrator responsible for managing all aspects of affiliate operations in conjunction with the Construction and ReStore Managers.
  • Oversee implementation of policies and procedures for the affiliate and ReStore. Responsible for public accountability of the organization and implementation of Board approved policies.
  • Manage talent within all affiliate operations by recruiting, retaining, developing, and overseeing the paid and volunteer staff in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Maintain a professional working relationship with the Construction Manager, including working knowledge of site progress to ensure that houses are built within time and budgetary parameters.
  • Provide oversight to Habitat ReStore by coordinating with the ReStore Manager to see that the policies, procedures, goals, and mission of the ReStore are effectively carried out.
  • Support the board of directors in making fundamental decisions, preparing strategic plans and creating/maintaining policies.
  • Work with the board to establish which decisions the board wants to be consulted for and which decisions should be left to staff and committees.
  • Authorize expenditures within the guidelines set by the Board of Directors.
  • Work with Board Chairperson to prepare an agenda for board meetings.
  • Consult with Treasurer and Bookkeeper on payment of bills and other financial reports as needed for Board Meetings, grants, and funding sources.
  • Serve as the communication link between the Board, the Executive Committee, committees and partner families.
  • Assist the committee chairs and provide communication flow among committees, staff, volunteers, partner families, and the board as appropriate.
  • Monitor the progress of all committees and support their efficient operation.
  • As appropriate, attend committee meetings and assist committee in completing their duties.
  • Maintain a climate which attracts, retains, and motivates staff and volunteers.
  • Maintain confidential employee and Partner Family applicant records.
  • Provide for consistent office hours.
  • Ensure the affiliate adheres to government regulations and HFH International policies.
  • Serve as liaison between HFH International and North Platte Area HFH.

 

Resource Development (Approximately 25% of time)

  • Responsible for the safeguarding, stewardship, and effective utilization of all organizational resources through the development and maintenance of sound financial practices.
  • Ensure adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its mission.
  • Oversee the creation of the annual budget and fundraising plan.
  • Ensure that the affiliate operates within annual budget and executes the fundraising plan.
  • Assist Fund Raising Committee in identifying and realizing funding and grant opportunities.
  • Provide leadership for solicitation of major gifts, including identifying and meeting with major corporate and individual donors.
  • Cultivate in-kind materials and land donations whenever possible and report all real and potential donations to appropriate committee chairperson.
  • Serve as a consultant to help implement fund raising programs such as special events, direct mail, and alternative financing programs.
  • Interact with the finance committee to ensure completion of audits and other financial activities.
  • Responsible for homeowner mortgage issues (delinquent payments, foreclosures etc.).
  • Monitor the administrative cost to total cost ratio and act to ensure the ratio is kept at a level consistent with local and HFHI guidelines.

 

Public Relations (Approximately 25% of time)

  • Serve as spokesperson for the affiliate.
  • Actively participate with appropriate community groups which share the goals of HFH, including networking with regional affiliate executive directors.
  • Ensure that the activities of the affiliate, its programs and goals are publicized through a consistent media presence.
  • Establish and maintain good media relationships.
  • Oversee quarterly production of a newsletter and other promotional materials.
  • Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with volunteers, home sponsors, partner families, community groups, and other organizations.

 

Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors, its Executive Committee, and Chairperson.

Pay: $58,656.00 - $69,168.00 per year

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
