Leidos is seeking a talented Engineering Site Lead to join our diverse team and create unique solutions to complex problems for our Space Sensor Department in San Diego.

With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The Engineering Site Lead will be responsible for leading the Leidos/Defense Sector engineering processes and procedures from on-site leadership perspective. In addition, the site lead will be responsible as the Program Manager for all Internal Research and Development (IRAD) projects under the Space Sensor portfolio. Working with the division lead and chief engineer, the engineering site lead will manage the site-specific engineering functional leads (for example: Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Test Engineering, Optical Engineering, and Operations support) on implementing updated systems to help programs manage more efficiently.

As a lead role, this position will also be responsible for helping develop the onsite engineering culture in line with modern development processes including developing professional career development plans for the team.

Primary Responsibilities

Candidate selected for this position will be responsible for:

  • Planning and executing strategies for completing projects on time and on budget.
  • Leading research and development projects that produce new designs, products, and processes.
  • Proposing project and program budgets.
  • Hiring and supervising staff.
  • Making determinations for staff and training needs.
  • Instilling the appropriate tools and equipment and supported training and operating procedures.
  • Supervising the work of multiple teams, including ensuring technical accuracy.
  • Ensuring the validity of methods used by staff.
  • Coordinating work with other managers and staff.
  • Updating the digital engineering best practices in-line with modern Agile practices.
  • Developing an updated engineering culture focused on on-time, on-budget, technical space payload design and development using agile development and digital engineering.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree plus eight or more years of relevant work experience.
    • Additional experience and technical training may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Five years of experience in space product (space vehicle or payload) design, manufacturing, or support that includes broad demonstrated experience in electrical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineering including product design, validation, test, troubleshooting, repair, and support.
  • Three years of experience successfully leading a technical team.
  • Experience leading a team of leaders.
  • Demonstrated experience managing an engineering team using modern agile tools.
  • Must be reliable and demonstrate a high standard of personal integrity.
  • Must have the ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong customer-service skills and a high degree of professionalism.
  • U.S. Citizenship and current U.S. passport.
  • Candidate must reside in the San Diego, CA area or be willing to relocate to the area.
  • Current Secret clearance and eligibility for a Top Secret/SCI clearance is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Linux, Unbuntu, Atlassian tools (Confluence, JIRA, Bitbucket), revision control tools (SVN, git, Sharepoint), manufacturing/product-lifecycle-management tools such as Agile and Costpoint.
  • Project management professional (PMP) training/certification.
  • Current TS/SCI clearance is preferred
  • Information Assurance and Risk Management Framework experience.
  • Shift work and experience scheduling 24x7 rotating shifts.

Pay Range:Pay Range $108,550.00 - $196,225.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
