Job Description

DESCRIPTION

The UCSD Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences is composed of 65 faculty and clinical fellows. The department is composed of the following divisions: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Hospitalist, Complex Family Planning and Urogynecology. The department is ranked 3rd nationally in research funding compared to other OB-GYN Programs. This includes funding from the National Institutes of Health, NSF, CIRM, CDPH and other private institutions.

Performs CNM/APP (Certified Nurse Midwife/Advanced Practitioner Provider) duties as a staff member of the UCSD OBGYN Hospitalist service in the inpatient setting primarily at the Hillcrest Medical Center Labor and Delivery unit. Provides triage evaluation and management, intrapartum, delivery and postpartum care for obstetrical patients as well as hospital evaluation of the gynecologic or early pregnancy patient consistent with the UCSD Practice Guidelines. Ability to practice independently for that in published scope of practice guidelines with the remainder supervised by the in-house OBGYN Hospitalist attending. Experience as or willingness to train as a surgical first assist necessary. Works in a collaborative model of care with OBGYN hospitalists and trainees and collaborates with consulting physicians and hospital-based APPs. Works within a family-centered philosophy of care and performs duties in a manner that is culturally sensitive and appropriate with respect for individual autonomy, beliefs and customs. Participates in clinical education of residents, medical students and other healthcare learners. Attends mandatory staff meetings.

Depending on experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the NPI or NPII level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current State of California Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) license, and CNM furnishing certification.

  • CNM Board Certified.

  • BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get OB ART within 6 months of hire date.

  • NRP certification.

  • Must possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in performing pregnancy assessment and well woman medical examination, identifying medical problems and formulate appropriate plan of action.

  • Must be able to see patients independently.

  • Proficiency in documentation of patient conditions and outcomes.

  • Experience interacting positively, constructively, and effectively with staff, physicians, patients and the general public.

  • Experience in performing effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload and frequent interruptions.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse population. Demonstration of a high level of professionalism and excellent communication skills. Ability to function as part of a team.

  • Excellent organizational skills in order to rapidly prioritize activities in a high-volume, dynamic, multiple demand clinic and hospital setting.

  • Identifies patient/family problems or learning barriers including physical, cognitive, environmental, language/cultural, financial, psychosocial, and spiritual and provides appropriate referral as necessary to function as part of a team.

  • Demonstrates ability to work with adult patients of various ages and backgrounds (socioeconomic, cultural, cognitive, etc.)

  • Demonstrated experience providing patient education and counseling and developing and implementing long and short range treatment plans.

  • Skill in patient interviewing, obtaining a concise medical history and acquiring pertinent data.

  • Demonstrated excellent assessment skills and ability to make clinically sound decisions in a fast paced environment.

  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of EPIC for retrieval of patient data (Computer skills required; EPIC Preferred).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • ACLS certification.

  • First assist experience.

  • Epic (EMR) experience.

  • Bilingual: English/Spanish.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Position may involve fixed weekly hours including nights and weekends at Hillcrest Medical Center.

  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.

  • Current UCSD NPIII employees may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval by Health Human Resources and the UCSD Advanced Practice Council.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $154,992 - $154,992 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $74.23 - $74.23

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
