Job Description

DESCRIPTION

Since its founding in 1982, the Owen Clinic has grown to become the largest, most comprehensive HIV primary care center for people with HIV in San Diego. We have been repeatedly recognized by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation as a leader in LGBTQ+ health care equity. Our mission is to provide compassionate, culturally responsive, and patient-centered care to persons with and affected by HIV.

Under general supervision, the Physician Assistant (PA) will assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

The major emphasis at this level is ongoing direct patient care delivery. Assignments at this level primarily encompass management of patients who present chronic and/or episodic health problems. Assignments at this level may include responsibility for occasional community teaching programs participation in program planning and development of patient education information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a graduate from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
  • California Physician Assistant (PA) license.
  • Current PA Certification from NCCPA.

  • BART or BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Must have at least two years of working PA experience in an ambulatory outpatient clinic setting. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.

  • Excellent assessment skills and ability to make clinically sound decisions in a fast paced environment.

  • Proven ability to identify when a patient's needs are outside the scope of your practice and expertise and arranges for additional services to meet needs.

  • Strong leadership skills with ability to motivate team members. Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.

  • Skill in assessing learning needs of patients and staff. Comfort in a group teaching setting and willingness to do community outreach.

  • Ability to interact positively and effectively with professional and nonprofessional staff, patients, study participants, families, and community support groups. Ability to teach and provide in-services for patients, families and staff.

  • Proven ability to interact effectively with diverse population. High level of professionalism and excellent communication skills. Ability to function as part of a team. Ability to work independently.

  • Excellent organizational skills in order to rapidly prioritize activities in a high-volume, dynamic, multiple demand clinic and hospital setting.

  • Ability to follow policies, procedures and standards of nursing practice. Knowledge and ability to access appropriate resources and contacts using appropriate channels.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • HIV and/or Infectious Disease experience.

  • Experience delivering high quality and culturally competent HIV medical care.

  • Experience delivering high quality and culturally competent care to underserved and/or marginalized patient populations.

  • Experience prescribing HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis.

  • Interest/experience working with the LGBTQ community.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $148,791 - $196,001 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $71.26 - $93.87

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
