DESCRIPTION

Involves the design and delivery of clinician (primarily nursing), professional/leadership development programs, policies, activities, assessment tools, and systems. Promotes excellence in patient care, through skill acquisition in evidence based nursing practice and clinical inquiry. Collaborates with nursing leadership to tailor programs and resources based on needs assessments. Meets the diverse requirements of the nursing units, patient populations, regulatory and accreditation and strategic goals of the organization/health system.

Applies extensive knowledge of clinical education and training practices to develop and deliver education and training content for all levels of clinicians, primarily nurses, at the medical center. Mentors nurse educators and functions as a leader and information resource. Holds in-depth specialty knowledge within a nursing discipline. Leads or oversees the implementation of new programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Researches best practices and develops tools for education and training needs assessment.
  • Develops, plans, and delivers a curriculum for target audiences by evaluating clinical protocols, standards of care, practice guidelines and policies, and procedures within clinical specialties.
  • Works with nurse leadership to design and implement tools for validating nurse competencies.
  • Works with nursing leadership to develop and establish a variety of nursing staff orientation and education and training programs.
  • Develops and implements processes to ensure that nursing education and training activities are compliant with all legal and certification requirements, and medical center and organizational standards of care.
  • Advances nursing expertise by pursuing professional development, encourages ongoing staff development, continuing education, and training.
  • Participates in committees, task forces, and projects that evaluate a broad variety of issues, including quality of care, patient safety, and licensure and accreditation requirements.
  • Works with nursing leadership to apply best practice and nursing research data to improve clinical practice and outcome assessments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • RN License issued by the State of California.
  • BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get UCSD BART within 6 months of hire.
  • Five (5+) or more years of pre-op and post-op PACU experience.
  • Experience and proven success in developing and delivering clinical nursing education and training material for orientation, class training, and skills / competency learning and leadership development.
  • Experience in the creation of patient education materials, written and/or visual.
  • Demonstrated program and project management skills.
  • Must have excellent written, computer, and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have decision-making, problem-solving, and prioritizing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced degree in Nursing or comparable.
  • Certificate within area of specialty.
  • Quality Improvement and/or Regulatory experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma.
  • Experience with researching current practice, collation of statistical data, and development of appropriate presentation techniques.
  • Experience with Epic and/or MyChart.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $112,100 - $216,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $53.69 - $103.69

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
