The Animal Care Associate (ACA) is responsible for the daily care of shelter animals at Routt County Humane Society.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide daily care to shelter animals including feeding and proper disinfecting of kennels and public areas following sanitization and disease control protocols.
- Report any medical or behavioral concerns or changes in animals to appropriate staff.
- Conduct adoption visits and consultations, lost animal public walk-throughs and shelter tours.
- Ensure animals entering the shelter have appropriate records, identification and assigned cages/kennels; assist with return to owner process.
- Participate in behavior and enrichment activities for shelter animals as directed.
- Act as contact during each shift for volunteers, providing guidance, assignments and training as needed.
- Interacts with RCHS patrons, coworkers, animal control and additional entitiesand ensures that excellent customer service isprovided; always represent mission of RCHS, maintaining focus on providing the best possible service to RCHS and the community.
- Cross-train on other positions as identified andprovide support to other departments as needed/directed, including the Wellness Clinic.
- Learn and have a detailed working knowledge of the Pet Animal Care Facilities Act (PACFA) program standards.
- Maintain confidentiality of RCHS animals who are held at the shelter as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- One (1) year of related or professionalanimal handling experience.
- Ability to problem solve while working in a high stress, fast paced environment and a strong customer service orientation is required.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other departments, contribute to team building and maintain a professional and positive outlook in all situations is desired, in addition to a genuine compassion and commitment to animal welfare.
- Valid Driver’s License and ability to gain coverage through our motor vehicle insurance is required.

This is apart-time,non-exemptposition. The pay rate is $15 per hour and performance reviews are annual in December. After 4 months of employment, part-time workers can accrue PTO/vacation time and have access to low-cost veterinary care through the RCHS Wellness Clinic. Based on time worked, eligible part-time employees can participate in the RCHS Simple IRA Retirement Program, which includes a 2% employer contribution. There is also access to training and continuing education internally with RCHS and through approved external sources.
