Summary Description

The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites
applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position on the subject of tropical cyclone risk modeling, including the interactions between hazard, exposure and vulnerability. The position will support a new Columbia World Project and will be located at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, NY in the research group of Professors Adam Sobel, Suzana Camargo, and Chia-Ying Lee, and with Professor Michael Tippett in Columbia’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Minimum Degree Required

Ph.D.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science or closely related field is required. As this project is interdisciplinary, a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds is potentially relevant, but strong quantitative skills and an interest in extreme weather risk are prerequisites. The appointment cannot begin until the doctoral degree has been awarded.

This is a full-time, 2-year appointment with continuation contingent upon progress and funding.
