The Department of Theatre, Dance & Arts Administration in the College of Performing and Visual Arts at Southern Utah University invites applications with expertise in acting for a tenure track position in theatre at the rank of assistant professor. The successful candidate will teach and mentor students within both a BFA and BA/BS degree program. The candidate will offer courses in acting and their area of focus. Other duties include student career and academic advising, student recruitment, service to departmental, college, and university committees, opportunities to teach in additional areas, and other duties as assigned. Excellence in teaching, creative/scholarly activity, and service is expected. An MFA or PhD is required for this position. Candidates must demonstrate experience with or a commitment to diversity and inclusion. Other qualifications include prior college teaching experience, a record of artistic/scholarly achievement and professional experience in acting or directing. Position effective August 2021.

  • Teaching courses in acting and related disciplines

  • Opportunities to direct departmental productions
  • Other duties as assigned


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • MFA or PhD in Acting, Directing, or a closely related field
  • Professional experience in acting or directing
  • A specialization in any of the following: musical theatre, movement, stage combat, or a specific acting technique
  • College teaching experience
  • Prior record of artistic/scholarly achievement
  • Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience in directing on the regional and/or university level
  • Strong connections to industry
