Life Pieces To Masterpieces is a non-profit organization located in Ward 7 of
Washington, DC. In operation since 1996, Life Pieces To Masterpieces uses artistic
expression and our Human Development System to develop character, unlock potential,
and prepare African American boys and young men ages 3 to 25 to transform their lives
and community.

Position Summary

Life Pieces To Masterpieces is currently seeking an energetic, creative, professional
with a background working with elementary and middle school students. The Co-
educator is a part-time position, operating Monday through Friday, between the hours of
2:30 pm and 7:00 pm at Dr. Charles R. Drew Elementary School during the academic
year. For LPTM summer programming, Co-educators have the option for a more full,
flexible schedule. All-staff trainings and events may fall outside of the pre-determined
position hours. Classroom size is between 20 and 25 Apprentices.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in designing engaging and developmentally appropriate lessons for the
respective age group.
  • Assists with instruction in the classroom, implementing lesson plans and managing
behavior.
  • Incorporates core elements of Life Pieces To Masterpieces curriculum into
classroom routine and expectations.
  • Supports in maintaining and submitting attendance records on a daily basis.
  • Works in support of classroom Lead Educator and volunteers, completing delegated
tasks and giving feedback when necessary.
  • Supports in the reporting on the progress of students verbally and in writing.

  • Responds to inquiries from parents and guardians.
  • Assists Apprentices with presentations to parents, guardians and interested

stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading or assisting successful and educational group activities for
elementary and middle school students in schools or nonprofit organizations.
  • Ability to support in designing lesson plans with concrete learning objectives that
correspond to respective grade-level.
  • Communication proficiency: ability to communicate with various types of people and
professionals.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Connection to and/or excitement towards the Life Pieces To Masterpieces mission.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, however, consideration will be given to those with

previous experience working with young people or in a youth development
organization.

  • Coachability and responsiveness to feedback.

  • Director of Programs and Education
  • LPTM Program Coordinator
  • Lead Educator in classroom
Physical Demands and Work Environment

• A high energy and at times noisy environment.
  • Attending to the emotional and physical needs of the boys.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and move efficiently up and down stairs.
  • Employee must have visual, auditory, and physical ability to respond quickly to

critical incidents involving students and act in an emergency situation.
