General Statement

The Broderick Lab is looking for a qualified individual to fulfill the duties of a Research Associate or Postdoctoral Research Associate in an established and productive research lab. The individual filling this position will carry out bioinorganic chemical research related to elucidating radical SAM enzyme mechanisms, understanding hydrogenase maturation, and/or exploring novel pathways for iron and sulfur acquisition in methanogens. Experimental work includes molecular cloning, expression, purification, and characterization of air-sensitive proteins, activity assays, and biophysical studies of the purified enzymes.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

  • Performing biochemical experimentation
  • Data analysis and interpretation
  • Training and supervising new researchers in the lab
    Secondary Duties:
  • Participating in the writing and preparation of manuscripts for publication and grant proposals
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • B.S , M.S., or PhD in chemistry, biochemistry or related field plus a minimum of one year of research experience.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: genetic cloning, protein expression, purification and characterization.
  • Experience with and/or demonstrated ability to learn common word processing, reference management, and data processing software.
  • Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Experience with spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques including UV-vis, CD, EPR, HPLC, FPLC. Atomic Absorption, Mass Spectrometry.
  • Experience carrying out experiments in under anaerobic conditions.
  • Grant and/or manuscript writing experience.
  • The Successful Candidate Will
    • Have good interpersonal, organizational, communication and computer skills.
    • The ability to work independently and with others as well as an aptitude for establishing and maintaining constructive working relationships with a wide spectrum of laboratory personnel in a collaborative environment, while representing MSU in a professional manner.
    • The ability to maintain excellent records, pay attention to detail, meet deadlines, prioritize multiple projects, present research results in front of colleagues.
