Postdoctoral Associate Position in Quantitative Genetics

The School of Integrative Plant Science at Cornell University is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral associate to conduct studies in the modeling of complex genotype-by-environment interactions and development curves.
The position will focus primarily on alfalfa, but will involve collaboration with partners working in wheat, maize, cotton, soybean and canola. The position is located in the Plant Breeding and Genetics Section.
The successful applicant is expected to apply advanced modeling techniques to phenotypic, genomic and environmental data to estimate genetic parameters related to plant responses to environmental stresses and lead all aspects of sample analyses, UAV flights and management of alfalfa trials at Cornell research stations in collaboration with the Moore Lab at Cornell.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with background and experience. Benefits package is included.
Anticipated Division of Time
  • Model development and data analysis: 60%
  • Field phenotyping,trial harvest and management, data management: 30%
  • Communication and coordination with collaborators: 10%

Requirements include a Ph.D. in plant or animal breeding, population genetics, statistics, computer science or computation-related fields with an interest in plant breeding applications. Ability to work as a team member, excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated ability to present information in public forums, excellent time management and organizational skills, ability to work safely in an agricultural environment.
Preferred Skills
Mixed models, Bayesian methodology, crop growth modeling, sequence alignment and variant calling methods, proximal sensing and programing experience in R, Julia, Python, or similar programming language. Knowledge of crop management, crop genetics, and field research techniques. Operation of the UAV will require a FAA Remote Pilot Certificate (FAA Small UAS Rule Part 107).
