Essential Job Duties
- Plan and carry out daily animal husbandry activities (feeding, grazing, breeding, calving, etc.)
- Keep clear and comprehensive records of all animal activities (feeding, breeding, sales, drug use, calving, etc.)
- Works with superintendent and crop specialist to plan, grow, and maintain inventory of feeds and forages to meet the nutritional demands of the beef herd
- Operate equipment to aid in station maintenance and forage/ crop production
- Work with the superintendent to prioritize and plan the dynamic needs of the research station
- Assist PIs and the superintendent in setting up, implementing, and collecting data for experimental research protocols

Other Responsibilities
Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of and ability to perform agricultural practices related to livestock and crop production with research experience.
- Understanding in research, commercial, production, and/or educational settings of beef cattle husbandry. This includes artificial insemination, calving, rotational grazing, nutrition management, herd health, etc.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds on a routine basis and up to 90 pounds on occasion, and perform long periods of repetitive reaching, stooping, standing, bending, and lifting, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to operate machinery associated with livestock and crop production.
- Ability to communicate in both oral and written form; ability to read and follow pesticide labels and research protocols.
- Ability to collect and record data accurately.
- Ability and willingness to work in all environments at the station to perform tasks as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience and/or knowledge of research program methods, principles, implementation, and evaluation.
- Experience with animal mating selection, general production, and marketing of purebred/ registered cattle.
- Experience working with an IACUC and knowledge of best management practices with beef cattle, Beef Quality Assurance experience.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of agricultural practices related to crop and livestock production.
- Experience working with producers to help serve the cooperative extension beef program
- NC Public Applicators Pesticide License
- Experience operating, maintaining, and adjusting farm equipment including calibration.
Required License or Certification
- Must have a valid NC driver’s license or ability to obtain within 60 days of start date.
- Must obtain an NC Beef Quality Assurance Certification, Medical Respirator Certification, and NCDA forklift driver license within the first 6 months of hire.
- Licenses and certifications must be maintained as a condition of employment.
