Postdoctoral Scientist (m/f/d) for the Chair of Intestinal Microbiome
Technical University of Munich in Munich, Germany
Date Posted 01/27/2021
Employment Type Fulltime
Application Deadline Open until filled

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the Laboratory of Prof. Dr. Lindsay Hall (Chair of Intestinal Microbiome) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM).

About us
The Hall group’s research focus involves defining the complex interactions of the intestinal microbiota, particularly during the early life developmental window. The group is focused on how microbial communities and specific microbiota members (e.g. Bifidobacterium) interact with other microbes and the host including: (i) the impact of diet, (ii) how these microbes modulate critical infection resistance, and (iii) beneficially impact host responses, including immune regulation. Another key goal is to identify bifidobacterial communities and their components that can restore a disturbed early life microbiota back into one able to promote health. We utilise multi-disciplinary approaches to answer these key questions including; micro-biology (in vitro model-colon systems for complex culturing and molecular microbiology), metabolomics, next generation sequencing (both host and microbe), bioinformatics tools, in vivo models (germ-free and disease models) and human studies (infants and adults).

Candidate profile
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is motivated by big ideas in the field of microbiome re-search and is seeking to join an inclusive team. The skills/experience of the successful candidate represents a flexible framework and will guide project selection and future research. Activities will include con-ducting research projects in the field of the intestinal microbiome, with a focus on the early life develop-mental window. Particular skills and expertise we are looking for include; sequencing-based microbiome profiling, bioinformatics analysis (which may include tool/software development), microbiology approaches and/or in vivo models to understand microbe-host interactions. We do not expect that the successful candidate will have all these skills, rather an individual may have high-level expertise in one specific area, or a broader portfolio (with good experience in several areas). The post holder will also assist with training students and visitors to the laboratory, liaising with collaborators as appropriate, and in the supervision and delivery of teaching. Candidates who have a longer-term vision for fellowship applications are also encouraged to apply.

Your qualifications
We are looking an individual that has a PhD degree in a microbiome-associated research field (e.g. microbiology, bioinformatics, microbe-host response), and suitable expertise as highlighted above. We are keen to have someone who collaborates well in a team environment and can also drive research ide-as/projects forward independently. The successful candidate will also have proficient written and oral communication skills and demonstratable outputs (e.g. publications).

Our offer
We offer a full-time position as a postdoctoral research assistant, initially the position will be limited to three years. Salary is based on the TV-L. TUM strives to raise the proportion of women in its workforce and explicitly encourages applications from qualified women. Applications from disabled persons with essentially the same qualifications will be given preference.

Your application
If you are interested in working in our team, please send your application as a single PDF via email to Prof. Dr. Lindsay Hall (Lindsay.Hall@tum.de) or by mail to the address mentioned below, including cover letter, CV, grades and names and contact information for 2-3 references no later than 28 February 2021.
