Position Description:  Apply
A collaborative effort centered in the Clark lab at Duke University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Associate in quantitative microbial dynamics. The position is funded by the National Science Foundation to evaluate the direct and indirect effects of environmental change on microbial dynamics. The goals of the study are to understand the changes in microbial communities that are occurring now and what’s causing them. Analysis will build from dynamic Generalized Joint Attribute Modeling (gjamTime). The Postdoctoral Associate will have flexibility to analyze data sets from several settings. Long-term responses of estuarine communities to hurricanes involves a collaboration with Dana Hunt and Mark Borsuk (Duke). With Christine Hawkes (NCSU) we are examining soil responses to climate variation in Texas. An application with Lawrence David (Duke) involves human diet and gut bacterial dynamics using cutting-edge DNA sequencing-based metabarcoding techniques. The work will consist of applying and extending gjamTime to new data sets, evaluating indirect effects and interactions, and anticipating change.

Successful applicants will have experience in quantitative analysis, including Bayesian hierarchical modeling.

The position has a flexible start date, with preference given to candidates who can begin before April 15. The position may last up to two years.

The Postdoctoral Associate will be part of a growing community of postdocs in the Dept. Natural Resources & Environmental Science and Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology Program, and have many opportunities for professional development including funding to attend meetings or workshops and opportunities to build collaborations with non-academic scientists.

The total compensation package includes a competitive salary and health insurance, along with many other benefits.
