The Surgical Technology Program Coordinator position will manage the Surgical Technology program development and course offerings. The project will include a collaboration with Onondaga Community College to deliver a jointly registered Surgical Technology Associates of Applied Sciences program. The Program Coordinator would be responsible for managing the Surgical Technology program in collaboration with Onondaga Community College, recruiting and advising students, assisting with retention activities and serving as liaison with the local employers. Additionally, this person would take the lead on the grant record keeping. This is a grant funded position.

Occasional meetings at different CCC locations and in the community will be required; travel to conferences and/or recruiting events will be required. Essential Functions

Recruitment/ Student Retention / Advising & Case Management (70%)

  • Recruit candidates using internal and external recruitment events, including pipeline connections established with schools and community support agencies.
  • Ensure efforts to recruit candidates from diverse backgrounds.
  • Engage employers to recruit and place students in employment.
  • Provide prospective students with detailed information about all aspects of enrollment, including admissions, registration, academic advising, financial aid, student accounts, academic program information/requirements, programs/services and related areas including college policies and procedures.
  • Provide intensive advising and intrusive case management to students enrolled in grant-funded programs, including educational planning, financial planning, and career planning, with a focus on students who are considered economically disadvantaged, from underrepresented minorities or academically at-risk.
  • Provide information and assistance to students in accessing college services, such as Financial Aid and Student Accounts, Accessibility Services, Learning Commons, etc. to reduce barriers to student success.
  • Participate and/or develop proactive outreach activities to assist in navigating the enrollment process from admission through graduation.
  • Collaborate with instructional personnel and academic divisions to develop and provide team approached interventions for at risk students.
  • Develop and participate in programming focused upon issues of student retention and completion, assisting students to be more proactive in the advisement process, etc.
  • Provide workshops for students focusing on educational plans, program choices, career plans, and other student success topics.
  • Participate and assist in maintaining strategic processes to track academic progress interventions, such as early alert, warning grade reports, end-of-semester academic standing, etc.; intervene with students who have received academic progress warnings.
  • Ensure each student receives social and monetary supports as needed, identified approval process followed. ]
Program Development (15%)
  • Coordinate marketing activities, in conjunction with Academic Affairs staff and the marketing department.
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs to develop new pipeline courses and programs to meet grant outcomes.
  • Coordinate with community stakeholders to provide supportive services to enrolled students.
  • Attend networking events to stay abreast of company personnel changes and connect with new companies, and industries.
  • Help coordinate the approval of the Surgical Technology Program through SUNY and the New York State Department of Education.
Administration (15%)
  • Responsibility for on-time, accurate completion of all grant reporting tools, including admission applications and periodic grant reports.
  • Coordinate meetings of internal stakeholders and advisory groups, including scheduling, moderating and taking minutes.
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs and Onondaga Community College to ensure that appropriate courses are offered in a student-centered schedule.
  • Actively participates in goal setting and goal attainment activities.
  • Collaborates with various college units and unit partners to provide quality customer service.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Case management skills including: Screening, Assessing, Stratifying Risk, Planning, Coordinating Services, Following-Up, Transitioning, Communicating Post Transition, and Evaluating
  • Ability to effectively convey information verbally and in writing, demonstrate effective listening skills, and display respect for and openness to other people’s ideas and thoughts
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Proficiency with Google and/or Microsoft Office Suites and proficiency with enterprise management systems
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently; exercise good judgment and discretion
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as needed
  • Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for regular local travel
  • Demonstrates commitment to accomplishing work in an ethical, efficient, and cost-effective manner
  • Ability to accept changes to job requirements, policies, workload, etc., as well as learn new methods, procedures, or techniques resulting from change with the ability to clearly approach problems and find solutions
  • Demonstrates support for the College’s goal of becoming a more diverse, inclusive, and culturally aware community and practicing anti-racist/biased behaviors

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Associate’s degree, with 1-4 years in case management or student services experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience as a Surgical Technologist, or related Allied Health occupation.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Proficiency with Google and/or Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently; exercise good judgment and discretion
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as needed
  • Must have reliable transportation for regular local travel
Preferred Qualification:
  • Bachelor’s degree with some work experience in higher education, adult education and/or training programs, employee development or other professional development programs.
  • Experience in the healthcare sector.
  • Familiarity with regional social support networks.
  • Familiarity with enterprise management systems; Banner experience is a plus
  • Experience in marketing/communications
  • Grant experience
