Job Description

Under general supervision, the Patient Access Specialist is responsible for overseeing day to day staff duties. Typical duties include staff coverage for all patient access department points of entry, performing patient account analysis to ensure accounts are financially secured, and reducing financial loss for the organization. Serves as a liaison for physician/patient care staff and patient/families. In addition is a liaison to Care Navigation Hub and other internal stakeholders. Provides training and technical resource to staff, assist management in assessing problem areas related to accuracy and procedural deficiencies, assists with staff performance evaluation, and complies with cash handling standards. Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSThree (3) years of recent experience in a large, complex healthcare environment. Experience related to ambulatory patient access functions, authorizations, referral management, and or patient scheduling.
Medical Terminology training or certification.
Familiar with hospital patient access systems.
Proficient user, MS Office: Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Word, etc.
Demonstrated ability to professionally interact with internal and external stakeholders with a focus on patient experience.
Superb customer service skills.
- EPIC Cadence expert knowledge and experience.
- Neurosurgery experience.
- Experience with referral data and reporting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of all insurance types (PPO's, Commercial, Point of Service, HMO's, Military, Medi-Cal, Medicare, Medical-Managed Care, etc.) and their authorization process.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $63,016 - $78,384 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $30.18 - $37.54
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
