Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

ACES, the Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students, is a four year undergraduate honors cybersecurity program within Maryland’s nationally ranked Honors College. Comprised of two linked academic programs, ACES includes a living-learning program for freshmen and sophomores and the ACES Minor for sophomores, juniors, and seniors. ACES includes academic and co-curricular components, including events focused on community building, professional development, and education beyond the classroom.

The ACES Graduate Assistant provides assistance and support to the ACES Program. Primary responsibilities include administration, database management, and communications/marketing.

The person in this position also assists as needed with other aspects of the ACES Program, and must be able to work in the evenings and during weekends at events and meetings as needed. The ACES Graduate Assistant reports to the ACES Program Coordinator with functional reporting to the ACES Associate Director.

Administration and Database Management:
  • Upkeep the ACES database
  • Implement surveys and compile reports on data related to ACESstudents
  • Complete clearance/audits of minor and citation completion
  • Assure students are correctly coded in the Student Information System and UAchieve (degree audit system)
  • Alert the Associate Director of grade/progress to degree concerns for ACES students which allows for individualized support, aiding in retention

Communications and Marketing:
  • Coordinate/write all news articles for the ACES Program including student highlights and program achievements
  • Coordinate ACES promotional videos and photos
  • Support the promotion of program on social media outlets, including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and LinkedIn
  • Oversee design & updates of program promotional materials

The person in this position also assists as needed with other aspects of the ACES Program.

The ACES Graduate Assistant reports to the ACES Program Coordinator with functional reporting to the ACES Associate Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Must be enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking graduate program at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Good writing, verbal, organizational, and computer skills and an ability to work well with students, campus partners, parents, and external constituencies.
  • Proficiency with Google Sheets/Excel
  • Attention to detail, initiative, ability to work independently, and reliability are essential.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Students with a background or professional experience in one or more of the following areas: communications, social media management, academic affairs, or student affairs.
  • Students with photography, videography, and/or video editing experience.

Additional Information:

  • 20 hours per week.
  • Schedule can be somewhat flexible based upon program and GA needs.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work for events/program support.
