Position Summary

 

The Coordinator of Apprenticeships & Career Placement shall perform the duties as specified in conformity with policies established by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees and the Drake State Community and Technical College Faculty and Staff Handbook. The Coordinator of Apprenticeships & Career Placement is responsible for facilitating the industry partner recruitment of students by identifying, locating, and referring eligible students for placement in appropriate apprenticeship experiences. This position will collaborate with Student Services and Instructional personnel to develop partnerships with business and industry and to assist students with industry apprenticeships, career planning, internships, certification, portfolio development, job placement and college transfer. The position also requires comprehensive documentation of job placement, salary, and transfer information for students.

Salary: Appropriate placement on the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees
Salary Schedule E2, Grade 3
Salary Range $44,333 - $61,480 (12 months, Exempt Professional)
Salary step placement is based on experience per Drake State’s practice for awarding salary step credit.
 

Work Hours
: 8:00 am - 5:30 pm Monday - Thursday and 8:00 am - 12:00 pm Friday

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for applying, planning, implementation, and coordination of Registered Apprenticeships (RA), Industry-Recognized Apprentice Programs (IRAP), and cooperative education programs such as Drake State’s Connecting Students to Industry Program, and ALAMAP
  • Serve as primary liaison to the U.S. Department of Labor, Alabama Office of Apprenticeships, and WIOA
  • Establish and maintain records for all work experience programs, employee contacts, and job listings for students
  • Develop and nurture relationships and recruit industry partners to participate in work experiences with Drake students
  • Coordinate career planning and job placement activities for students and graduates
  • Utilize available resources (i.e. local employers, Employment Services Office, websites) to locate and develop jobs for students and graduates
  • Coordinate WIOA program activities and services for students as needed
  • Coordinate an annual Career Fair and periodic on-campus recruiting visits by local employers
  • Assist the Advising and Transfer Center in coordinating an annual College Transfer Fair and periodic on-campus visits by four-year institutions
  • Work closely with Student Services in assisting students in the acquisition of transfer scholarships
  • Coordinate and implement career workshops and activities (i.e. dress for success, resume writing, portfolio development)
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive student follow-up plan that will facilitate the collection, analysis, reporting, review, and evaluation of data regarding students, graduates, and non-graduates
  • Assist with collecting, analyzing and reporting gainful employment data for career technical programs
  • Develop and conduct workshops, seminars and activities to assist students with preparation for employment and/or transfer to four-year institutions
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and administration to create a policy and procedures manual for apprenticeships, co-ops, internships, etc.
  • Collaborate with Instructional, Workforce Development, and employers in the development of position descriptions which complement and enhance the students’ academic goals
  • Assist in the recruitment of new industry partners as apprenticeship sponsors
  • Coordinate high school visits and attend college/career fairs to promote apprenticeship programs
  • Assist in maintaining records for all apprenticeship students, administer exit surveys upon student completion, and collect and maintain program statistics
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; demonstrating ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse workforce, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities, and socioeconomic levels
  • Maintain current knowledge and maintenance of trends and practices in the field through peer association, attendance at seminars, study and review of literature
  • Coordinate the collection of career placement, licensure, and other employment statistical data for reporting purposes
  • Develop and maintain a current and comprehensive occupational library including information on careers and career clusters, employment prospects, trends, employment requirements, and opportunities in the College’s service area
  • Attend meetings, conferences and seminars regarding apprenticeship training, career trends, job placement, institutional effectiveness, and institutional research
  • Assist with certification and accreditation processes
  • Assist student services and instructional units with planning and assessing outcomes and disseminating data
  • Serve on institutional committees as assigned
  • Retain and submit documentation as requested to support accreditation efforts
  • Perform other work-related responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of Students and/or President.

Qualifications

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of an earned Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, counseling, program or project management, career/technical education, etc.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of directly-related full-time experience in higher education and one (1) year of full-time industry experience
  • Ability to compose, prepare, and maintain accurate reports, records, and correspondence
  • Experience with job placement and internship/co-op programs
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and network with business and industry
  • Experience in career planning, student advising, and/or student follow-up activities
  • Proficient use of a computer, spreadsheets, databases, and word processing applications
  • Excellent oral, auditory, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment requiring excellent multitasking and organization skills
  • Understanding of customer service and public relations etiquette
  • Ability to work well with students, faculty, staff, and the public
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
  • Ability to drive, maintain a valid driver’s license, be insurable, and travel
  • Ability to work flexible hours

 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
:

  • Earned Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Familiar with business and industry in the College’s service area
  • Experience in developing and maintaining data management processes
  • Business, industry, or occupational education experience
  • Knowledge of student placement services and activities
  • Knowledge of WIOA administration
