This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at La Jolla and remote.

This is position will be hired at 50% to 100% depending on funding

DESCRIPTION

The mission of UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS) is to educate future pharmacists and scientists to become leaders in diverse fields, transform pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, and improve human health.

With general guidance from faculty and School leadership, the Program Manager for Diversity and Community Initiatives plans, identifies and integrates existing initiatives, identifies new opportunities, develops solid collaborations and partnerships with other programs on campus and other operational functions. Participates in proposal development to fund new and existing programs and develops and implements strategies to increase student recruitment and retention. Identifies targeted audiences for these programs and uses outreach expertise to develop relationships to share information about participating in specialized programming, meetings, events, mini-conferences, support groups, presentations, panel discussions, etc. Creates content and generates promotional materials, posts on websites and social media, and participates in the creation of annual communication plans for JEDI activities. Uses outreach mechanisms to expand participation in JEDI activities at the SSPPS and partner programs.

Establishes and expands contact with undergraduate students, mentors, volunteers, prospective UCSD students (high school students and transfer students), and diverse communities. Coordinate the logistics of panel discussions, speaker series, support groups, study sessions, dinners, mentoring meetings, career exploration activities, shadowing experiences, workshops, etc. Coordinates and manages the operational, logistical, and financial aspects of these programs, including budgeting, calendaring, purchasing, room reservations, IT/AV support, catering, interactions with invited speakers, RSVP lists, expense reconciliation, program troubleshooting, and program evaluation. Assesses the effectiveness of minority Student Success programs and services by evaluating data and developing appropriate strategies to increase the success of the programs. Conducts Pharmacy presentations to ethnically diverse professionals and the community at large. Develops networks within diverse communities to assist the SNPhA Chapter in reaching community leaders, families, and health and social service professionals and raising awareness and funds. Serves as liaison with current pharmacy students supporting the admissions and recruitment process. Completes special projects for the Associate Dean of Business and Fiscal Affairs as needed.

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced public educational program professional to resolve a wide range of educational program issues and needs assessments. Develops new public educational programs, and works on complex public educational programs of diverse scope. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for delivering courses, presentations and development programs. Receives general instructions and exercises judgment in selecting methods and techniques for course and instructional improvement. Fully knowledgeable in course subject matter and program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor's degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training.

  • Thorough knowledge of functional area and understanding of how work may impact other areas.

  • Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.

  • Thorough and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills. Good reading, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, and good presentation skills. Rapport-building and collaboration skills. Teamwork skills with colleagues, faculty, and administrators. Experience interacting with and providing information to the general public, community members, and external organizations, timely. Excellent writing skills for formal memos, emails, social media posts; ability to alter tone of messaging based on various targeted audiences and/or delivery mechanism (brochure writing, vs web post vs social media post vs mail chimp survey, vs report to decisionmakers). Proofreading and editing skills. Accuracy/attention to detail, timely responses.

  • Thorough knowledge of organization policies and procedures.

  • Thorough knowledge of and skill in delivering programs.

  • Thorough knowledge of current public educational programs and trends. Thorough knowledge of marketing concepts, including participating in developing marketing plans, targeting audiences, and coordinating programs and events in higher education.

  • Thorough skills to conduct needs assessment and development of new presentations / courses to meet organizational needs.

  • Knowledge of managing a portfolio of business and management courses at the university or corporate level.

  • Skill in using business software systems in the completion of work assignments; i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint. Administrative skills: Microsoft Office, Google Shared Drives, Outlook email/calendaring, and other online systems. Experience calendaring meetings, creating content for agendas, and taking minutes. Attention-to-detail and accuracy in documents, spreadsheets, data entry. Experience managing a large list of contact lists, shared files, etc.

  • Experience promoting an educational and/or EDI program geared to high school, college, graduate students or high school counselors, and college counselors/administrators.

  • Experience building or organizing educational or support programs for underrepresented, low-income, or first-generation populations interested in attending college and/or graduate school.

  • Experience with EDI/ DEI initiatives, program management, mentoring, interviewing, career advising, time management, faculty search committees, Staff EDI committee, organizational development, advisor, preceptor, development, diversity training, diversity recruitment, diversity program development, career path planning job fairs, community health education, Public speaking, analysis, presentations, interpersonal communication, conference planning, succession planning, event planning/ logistics, stakeholder communication, networking, HBCU Pharmacy presentations, MSI (minority-serving institutions) Pharmacy presentations.

  • Event planning and implementation experience. Experience managing event logistics for both small and large events. Organizational skills. Experience arranging catering, locations, conference schedule of events, breakout rooms, arranging travel for guest speakers, PowerPoint presentation, basic IT/AV presentation arrangements, RSVP/registration management, VIP attendees, etc.

  • Experience keeping meticulous records regarding projections. Experience following complex, formal policies regarding recruitment and retention of underserved student populations.

  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Adhering to UCSD's Principles of Community.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience organizing networking events, conferences, programming content or professional development geared to the pharmaceutical academia sector.

  • Experience explaining undergraduate or graduate pharmacy school pathways to high school or undergraduate students

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $56,700 - $97,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $27.16 - $46.70

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
