DESCRIPTION

The Clinical Social Worker II/III will serve multiple cancer disease teams within Cancer Services. Under the general supervision of Cancer Services leadership, and in addition to performing the full range of operational level duties, the Clinical Social Worker II/III is responsible for administering social work services, including comprehensive psychosocial assessment and psychosocial support surrounding crisis intervention, adjustment to illness, psychoeducation and anticipatory guidance related to treatment, advance care planning, referrals to hospice, grief counseling, support of patients pursuing the Aid-in-Dying/End of Life Options Act, mental health, substance use, mandated reporting, transportation, lodging, financial/grant support, barriers to care/compliance, and linkage to additional resources as needed. The Clinical Social Worker II/III will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and will provide education and advocacy for patients and families, assist with the facilitation of support groups, participate in social work meetings, and will collaborate with teams across the UC San Diego Health system as well as outside agencies as needed. The Clinical Social Worker II/III may also be asked to cover other disease teams as needed. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Depending on the experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at a Clinical Social Worker II or Clinical Social Worker III level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Master's degree in social work from an accredited school.

  • At least two (2) years of post-MSW experience. To be considered for the Clinical Social Worker III, the candidate must have at least three (3) years of post-MSW experience and be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

  • Must possess the knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

  • Must have proven independent thinking, decision making, problem-solving and prioritizing skills.

  • Excellent skills to communicate and influence effectively with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and external constituents, both verbally and in writing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) - issued by the state of California.
  • Bilingual in both English and Spanish.
  • Epic experience.
  • Prior experience in oncology, palliative, hospice, and/or medical social work with sensitivity to the cross-section of culture/ethnicity.
  • Utilization of research to improve clinical practice and implement evidence-based psychosocial support programs, services, and interventions.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Depending on the experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at a Clinical Social Worker II or Clinical Social Worker III level. The pay scale for the CSWII (2+ years post-MSW experience) is $82,747-$109,014. The pay scale for the CSWIII (with California LCSW) is $92,853-$122,315.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $82,747 - $109,021 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $39.63 - $52.21

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
