Job Description
This position will support Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific Reverse Engineering Science and Technology for Obsolescence, Repair and Evaluation (RESTORE) Laboratory. This job is to provide engineering services to process, test, develop and use materials to replicate and make a large variety of products within a C4I environment. The engineer will be required to study and evaluate the structures and properties of metal, composites, ceramics, and plastics for use in various applications that will meet chemical, electrical, and mechanical requirements for system components being created and/or replicated. Data collection efforts will include extensive usage of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) devices and 3-D modeling software will be used in replication efforts. The ideal candidate will have experience and expertise with materials and understand their application using 3-D printers.
- Analyze thermoplastic polymers, metals, powders, binding agents and other materials used for use in Additive Manufacturing. Mitigate pre-processing, manufacturing, and postprocessing defects through proper material selection.
- Analyze conductive materials for use in Advanced Manufacturing of electronics.
- Design, refine, and conduct chemical post-processing of prototypes.
- Develop and execute material testing plans.
- Evaluate waste material for recycling and reuse.
- Evaluate materials and equipment for environmental impact.
- Create analytical numerical models of materials to validate design survivability and performance.
- Initiate and execute the reproduction of another manufacturer's product following detailed examination of its construction or composition.
- For mechanical assemblies, perform disassembly and then analyze, measure and document the parts and components using various techniques including LiDAR and related computer software applications.
Payrate:$75,000 to $110,000 Annually
- B.S. degree from an accredited university
- Must have an active DoD Secret Security Clearance
- U.S. Citizenship status required
- Analytical skills as well as writing, problem-solving and speaking skills. Must have the ability to operate within a military environment with Senior Civil Service and US Navy/USMC military personnel
- Knowledge of Additive Manufacturing techniques and materials to include both metal and composite materials. This may include the materials used in composites such as Kevlar, fiberglass, carbon fiber and thermoplastics with varied orientations.
