Overview

The research assistant for REACH PC--a clinical trial that compares early in-person palliative care with telemedicine palliative care for metastatic lung cancer patients--has a critically important role in operationalizing this study and is the key to successfully adhering to the strict guidelines in the protocol.

The person who will be selected for this position ideally has had previous experience working on clinical research studies and has an ability to work independently while also maintaining continuous communication between palliative care clinicians, oncology clinicians, clinic staff (such as palliative care and oncology schedulers), other members of the research team, and enrolled patients and caregivers. The ideal RA has a high attention to detail and is self-motivated to execute the research procedures required with this complex protocol.

This position is for 10 hours/week.

Responsibilities

  • Manage supportive care studies and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of study procedures.
  • Use the electronic medical record to identify and screen patients for eligibility.
  • Coordinating study visits with study patients and clinicians.
  • Offer study participation to eligible patients, perform consent procedures, and collect baseline and follow-up questionnaires.
  • Maintain databases (including data entry) and project documentation with accuracy using REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) or other similar programs.
  • Maintain the security and confidentiality of all study materials and data.
  • Monitor and evaluate protocol compliance.
  • Preparing study reports, annual reviews, and Institutional Review Board documentation.
  • Assist with coordination and preparation of project related meetings as requested.
  • Other project-related or administrative responsibilities as requested by management.

Qualifications

-Bachelor’s degree in public health, natural or social science preferred. Prior research experience and working with oncology patients is strongly preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

- High attention to detail and self-motivated to execute research procedures required with a complex protocol.

- Have an interest in working with people with serious illness (often with poor prognoses).

- Excellent interpersonal skills, dependable, motivated and willingness to learn new tasks.

- Computer skills, including prior use of Microsoft Office products.

- Work independently with excellent organization, communication and problem-solving skills.
