Essential Job Duties

  • The primary purpose of this position is to provide supervision and guidance to five full time and approximately ten (seasonal) student/temporary staff members working in the University Housing Paint Shop. 
  • This position provides guidance to this area by supervising staff members, maintaining inventory, and following budget guidelines to complete work assignments within the department facilities including residence halls, apartments, and office spaces. 
  • This position serves as a working supervisor where the incumbent is expected to manage and assist with projects and tasks.

Other Responsibilities

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Experience/Education

High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in the trade(s) areas assigned; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, and methods of the painting trade.
  • Considerable knowledge of methods and materials to be used in the preparing surfaces for finishing and of the proper methods of mixing materials to obtain desired colors and quantities.
  • Ability to plan, assign, and direct the work of journey level painters.
  • Skill in mixing paints and in matching and blending colors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in performing the full range of journey level tasks associated with the painting trade.

Required License or Certification

  • Valid NC Driver’s License or the ability to obtain within 60 days of start date.
