American Specialty Health Incorporated is seeking a Sr Specialist, Contracts to work with our Legal and Contracts department. This position will support the Legal and Contracts Department of the Company. Note: The individual in this position is not intended to practice law or provide legal advice. The individual in this position will not negotiate rates.

Remote Worker Considerations

Candidates who are selected for this position will be trained remotely and must be able to work from home (WFH) in a designated work area with company-provided technology equipment.This remote/WFH position requires you have a stable connection to your Internet Service Provider with the ability to participate by video in online meetings over a reliable and consistent network (minimum internet download of 50 Mbps and 10 Mbps upload speed).

Salary Range
American Specialty Health complies with state and federal wage and hour laws and compensation depends upon candidate's qualifications, education, skill set, years of experience, and internal equity. $45,000 to $65,000 Full-Time Annual Salary Range

Responsibilities

  • Assists in supporting Department and is accountable for all activities within assigned scope of authority. The senior specialist's assigned scope of authority may focus on one or more lines of business and primarily includes, but is not limited to, the following:
  • Prepares and manages company template and client/vendor template form contracts, agreements, amendments, and similar documents including, but not limited to:
  • Employer agreements and related documents for new and existing business employer group contracts, group subscriber agreements, business associate agreements, marketing agreements, and administrative/network agreements etc.;
  • Health plan agreements and related documents for new and existing business capitation and compensation service agreements, business associate agreements, delegation agreements, new administrative/network agreements, etc.;
  • New products agreements, amendments, and related documents;
  • Provider, practitioner, fitness facility, and consultant agreements and related documents;
  • Vendor Agreements and related documents;
  • NDAs, LOIs, MOUs, RFPs;
  • Agreements related to internal operations, i.e., related to Human Resources, Information Technology, etc.
  • Website terms and conditions.
  • Serves as subject matter expert with clients/vendors in a constantly evolving contracts environment and acts as a resource to the Contracts team and internal customers and stakeholders.
  • Proactively issue spots to identify potential barriers to agreement language resolution, and offers suggestions to internal stakeholders to resolve same.
  • With minimal supervision, assists in the development of contract templates and prepares revisions of various standard form (company template) contracts, agreements and amendments, including but not limited to, group agreements, health plan agreements, provider agreements, fitness center agreements, and member materials, as assigned.
  • In the negotiation of client and vendor agreements, collaborates with the applicable line of business leadership team, committees (CCC and KPT), and other departments to develop negotiation parameters and strategies for use client/vendor contracts. Independently prepares non-standard modifications to reflect negotiated changes, within approved parameters.
  • Works with Regulatory Compliance Department to: a) ensure regulatory requirements, provided by the Regulatory Compliance Department, are included in agreements executed in certain states; and b) provide contract information and support needed for compliance activities.
  • With minimal supervision, negotiates, and/or assists business partners with negotiating, contracts, agreements and amendments with external clients, as assigned and within parameters approved.
  • Manages client timeframe expectations and escalates concerns regarding ability to meet client timeframe expectations.
  • Timely informs supervisor or Manager of urgent issues.
  • Responsible for coordinating, maintaining, and for ensuring the reliability and validity of contract tools (grids, databases, etc.) used to track agreements and status.
  • Supports administrative functions of Department.
  • Provides supervisor or Manager with periodic contract status updates regarding client assignments.
  • Assists with training of new employees.
  • Maintains and learns computer and system skills necessary to perform job functions.
  • Maintain the contract management database as defined by department policies, procedures and processes.
  • Assists with contract process management including but not limited to facilitation of signatures, distribution of signed agreements, and updating of contract database.
  • Maintaining interdepartmental contract tracking grids per department policies, procedures and processes.
  • Photocopies, files, and faxes as needed to support job responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, History, Political Science or equivalent; Master's degree in Health Care Administration, Legal degree or equivalent preferred. If equivalent experience, high school diploma required.
  • Minimum 3 years' proven experience in contract development and document management both independently and in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in managed health care and/or insurance preferred. Experience in a similarly regulated industry may be considered.
  • Proven experience in reviewing contract documents to issue spot and suggest potential solutions.
  • Proven experience in drafting contract language and negotiating contract provisions (excluding rate and pricing negotiation).
  • Experience with contract related presentations to internal committees, clients, and vendors.
  • Experience with health insurance contracts and working with health plans and employer groups preferred.
  • Internal Company experience and in depth understanding of Company systems, policies and procedures preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office (e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel, SharePoint, OneNote). Experience with contract management software preferred.
  • Knowledge of health care regulations preferred.
  • Knowledge of privacy and information security regulations preferred.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent research skills.
  • Strong analytical and expert writing skills.
  • In depth understanding of Company systems, policies and procedures preferred.
  • Ability to work as an individual and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to issue spot and problem solve, and to assist with identifying and developing effective solutions.
  • Maintains all information and material received from employer, clients, and legal counsel during employment on a strictly confidential basis. The sharing of any information is strictly forbidden under any circumstances with any non-employee of the Company.
