About the Department

Foundations Accounting and Investments (FAI) under the direction of the University Treasurer, is responsible for providing investment, financial reporting, budgeting, accounting and corporate governance oversight for seven (7) University-related foundations, the NC State Investment Fund, Inc. (NCSIF), the Endowment Fund of NC State University, the Alumni Association, the NC State Partnership Corporation, nine (9) subsidiary LLC’s and a non-profit subsidiary of one of the foundations. Each of these entities provides substantial resources in support of the University through its various colleges. As of June 30, 2023, these responsibilities included approximately 13,000 funds with a combined market value in excess of $2.4 Billion.

FAI is the proud manager of a $65 million dollar Sustainable Responsible Impact (“SRI”) Fund which integrates environmental, social and corporate governance considerations into investment strategy.

Essential Job Duties

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Reporting and Investment Accountant to manage accounting tasks for multiple investment entities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial reporting. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of investment accounting principles.

As the Financial Reporting and Investment Accountant for FAI you will be responsible for the accounting for the NC State Investment Fund, (NCSIF) Inc. Long Term Pool (LTP), an investment pool with a market value of approximately $1.7 billion (as of June 30, 2023), the NC State Intermediate Term Fund (ITF), an intermediate operating cash investment pool with a market value of approximately $323,000,000 (as of June 30, 2023) as well as the NC State Foundation, Inc. Sustainable Responsible Impact Fund (SRI) with a market value of approximately $65,000,000 (as of June 30, 2023). The value of these funds is material to the University and requires careful scrutiny.

A few key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Manage accounting tasks for multiple investment pools, including monthly reconciliations, fee review, and participant allocation updates, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial reporting standards.
  • Oversee the monthly long-term investment cash-flow process, analyzing foundation operating cash and determining investment amounts while adhering to reserve requirements. Efficiently withdraw spending budget amounts and communicate investment decisions to relevant stakeholders.
  • Track and fulfill private equity capital calls promptly, coordinating closely with the University Cash Management department for distributions. Manage invoices for various investment funds, ensuring timely payments and accurate financial records.
  • Attend NCSIF board meetings as required, providing guidance on complex investment issues and new accounting standards.
  • Play a key role in the audits of various associated entities, as assigned, by preparing audit work papers, draft financial statements, and footnote disclosures in accordance with GASB and FASB, as appropriate.
  • Execute special projects as assigned and serve as a backup for Fundriver updates and quarterly investment unitization process training, ensuring continuity and support for critical investment operations.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate’s degree in Accounting; or Associate’s degree in Business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. 

Other Required Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of investment accounting principles and regulatory standards.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to interact with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficient in advanced use of Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Public accounting or minimum of 3 years accounting and audit experience is highly desired
  • CPA license
