Job Description

 

GENERAL PURPOSE

 The Campus Police are responsible for the overall safety and security of the campus.  This includes campus patrolling and maintaining a high visibility presence in order to secure a safe environment for students, faculty, staff and guests of the college.  

Hours will be between 6:30am and 10:00pm Monday through Thursday and 6:30am- 4:00pm on Friday.  Occasionally, weekend hours may be required to help cover special events/gatherings at the college.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Provide a visual security presence on campus.
  2. Investigate reports of illegal activity on campus.
  3. Investigate any accidents and respond to any emergency.
  4. Write detailed incident reports on all incidents that occur.
  5. Issue college IDs to staff, faculty, and students of the college.
  6. Accompany students, employees and visitors to their cars when requested.
  7. Respond to all safety, security and fire alarms.
  8. Secure the campus buildings entrances and exits at the end of operating hours.
  9. Other similar duties as assigned. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 Education and Experience: 

  • High School graduate or GED; Associate Degree in Criminal Justice and/or Law Enforcement is preferred.
  • Possession of a State of Ohio operator’s license.  
  • Must be certified to carry a firearm.
  • Must be certified as an Ohio Police Officer by the State of Ohio and maintain while employed.

 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, interpret and apply to specific situations the laws of the State of Ohio, NSCC policies and procedures.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Google Applications
  • Ability to learn college ID, access, and CCTV systems.
  • Ability to write clear, concise communications and reports.
  • Ability to effectively respond to inquiry, give direction to, and control people in a professional manner.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and make critical decisions under both routine and highly stressful conditions.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient and composed while exercising tact in dealing with uncooperative persons or people presenting challenging interpersonal situations.

 RESPONSIBILITY FOR PUBLIC CONTACT

Responsible for maintaining communication and a good working relationship with local law enforcement and emergency response agencies.  This position will have continual contact with the public.
