Department Purpose
The Arts & Sciences (A&S) Division provides for the educational needs and academic support of the students, faculty, instructors, and staff in the A&S departments.

Position Summary
The Director of STEM Career & Technical Education coordinates college-wide STEM activities and initiatives at all college locations. The Director also assesses the efficacy of STEM education in all related programs.

This position has been identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) in accordance with Department of Education guidelines. As a CSA, the incumbent is required to report crimes that they become aware of to the Department of Public Safety and must attend related annual training.

In accordance with Colorado Revised Statutes 24-50-135, this position has been exempted from the State Personnel System.

Job Duties

Essential Functions


  • Directs and coordinates STEM education programs at all campus locations.
  • Develops, plans, and implements short- and long-term STEM programming.
  • Oversees student advising and career pathway guidance for STEM and CTE students.
  • Identifies and cultivates community partnerships that enhance STEM and CTE education and activities.
  • Collaborates with faculty, instructors, and staff to ensure STEM initiatives are linked directly to college and academic strategic plans.
  • Manage daily operations of the STEM Center.
  • Identify, apply for, and administrate related grants.

  • Works independently with little supervision or as part of a team.
  • Communicates effectively with students, colleagues, and others.
  • Interacts professionally and respectfully with students, colleagues, and others.
  • Assesses individual and department work processes and recommends improvements.
  • Complies with State Fiscal Rules, State Board policies, System and College protocols, and departmental procedures.
  • Obtains and maintains proficiency with required systems and equipment.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student and employee information as required.
  • Completes all required compliance training within the established timeline.
  • Serves on committees and other groups as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in a STEM discipline.

Licenses or Certificates:

  • Professional licensure or certification from a recognized STEM body.

Experience:

  • Five or more years work experience in a STEM field.
  • Three or more years teaching or student advising, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience with grant application and/or management.

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of laws, accreditation standards, and best practices pertaining to STEM education, career advisement, and Colorado Career Pathways.
  • Knowledge of STEM teaching pedagogies.
  • Knowledge of STEM terminology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; working knowledge of Ellucian Banner.
