Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

This position is a graduate assistantship in the BSOS Feller Center for Academic Advising and Career Planning and offers an in-depth educational and professional position to a student working simultaneously towards a graduate degree.

  • Support the college’s implementation of student success policies and processes.
  • Review students’ major change requests and graduation plans and communicate
  • feedback regarding plans to students.
  • Determine students’ eligibility for the College’s limited enrollment majors.
  • Conduct academic audits to inform students of their progress towards earning a degree.
  • Work with the registrar’s office and students to maintain accurate academic records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Admission into a UMCP graduate program required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to handle coursework on graduate level along with work responsibilities.
  • Ability to work with computer-assisted advising technology, word processing software, and databases.
  • Strong assessment, organizational, administrative, and communication skills.
  • Able to learn quickly, independently and cooperatively to provide good service.
  • Accuracy and flexibility.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel/Access is preferred.

Duration:
This position is a one-year renewable assistantship coinciding with the University’s academic program and is a 12-month graduate assistant staff position. The position follows the faculty rather than the student holiday calendar.

Remuneration:
The salary for this position is $34,052 plus tuition (up to ten credits each Fall and Spring semester) and may be higher depending on class standing in graduate program. The average work week is 20 hours.
