TRIO Talent Search is a grant funded, pre-college program that helps students prepare for higher education. TRIO Talent Search serves 1,314 students annually and works with middle and high school students in Johnston, Wake, and Wayne Counties.
TRIO TS Summer Mentors will work with summer youth programs, Monday, July 8th – Friday, July 12th, including one overnight field trip. Mentors must be able to work the entirety of the program and attend a virtual staff training on Friday, July 5th from 2pm-4pm.
TRIO Talent Search Summer Mentor responsibilities include:
- Assist with supervision of 30-40 youth during summer programs. Anticipated schedule is July 8th – July 12th, Monday – Friday, 7:00am-5:30pm; plus overnight trip. A staff training will also be required on July 5th from 2pm -4pm.
- Duties include:
- Serving as bus chaperone, which includes riding the bus to and from Johnston, Wake, and Wayne County locations and assisting with parent check-in/out;
- Ensuring the safety and supervision of minors, enforcing program rules, and reporting any behavioral issues to TRIO staff;
- Provide mentorship and be a positive role model to participants.
- All activities, travel, accommodations, meals, etc. while serving as Summer Mentor will be provided.

- Minimum Bachelor’s degree or current college student
- Successfully pass background check and reference checks
- Complete required TRIO Training Orientation

- Must be mature with the ability to supervise and direct Middle school and high school students
- Must serve as a positive role model for students and have proven ability in establishing rapport with students and staff while encouraging the importance of cooperation and a positive attitude
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
- Experience working with youth from diverse populations
- College seniors, graduate students, former and current teachers, counselors, school administrators, as well as TRIO alumni are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Johnston, Wake and Wayne County public school staff and administrators strongly encouraged to apply.
