Pay Grade:  Professional 4

This position is responsible for providing a broad range of academic advising, coaching, and/or counseling services to facilitate the development of students entering and progressing through academic programs. 

Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary job functions herein described.

*Assesses student data such as NCDaP, Accuplacer, SAT and ACT scores and reviews transcripts from high school, postsecondary institutions and other relative documentation as needed in order to determine course level placement

*Informs and advises students for selection of program and courses, assists in developing an academic plan, recommends coursework relevant to academic plan, discusses enrollment policies and procedures, and answers specific inquiries

*Maintains contact with select advisees using a proactive advising model

*Provides students with academic success strategies, information about specific areas of study, and general knowledge of college and program requirements to facilitate a successful transition to college, foster retention, and promote completion of college credentials  

*Monitors, documents, and tracks student attendance and academic progress using student success/early warning software; provides appropriate interventions for designated student caseloads

Participates in the development and presentation of workshops and other activities focused on transition to college, student success, and retention

Utilizes technology to effectively monitor student progression toward credential completion and to record student interactions

Assists in the development and maintenance of effective advising and academic planning materials for students

Maintains contact with four-year institutions and assist in executing four-year college visitations to campus as requested

Delivers timely and accurate information to students about resources and services available such as financial aid, disability support, academic success centers, and registration assistance
 
Responds in a timely and professional manner to enrollment and program inquiries

Contacts active and inactive students to assist them with progressing to completion and/or returning to college
 
Provides evening, weekend, and online advising services as required

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Excellent communication skills, listening, writing, and speaking

Working knowledge of MS Office products

Student-focused, demonstrate initiative, and able to manage change

Able to multi-task, troubleshoot problems, and create resolutions with minimal supervision

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or higher

One year of professional experience counseling/advising students in an educational setting or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
