Overview

A lab technician position in the Marasco lab is available for a highly motivated and experienced individual who is interested in hands-on bench research in cancer. This individual will be an integral member of our research team and will work with senior members of the lab on developing novel cellular therapies to treat cancer and evaluation of the tumor microenvironment (TME) using state-of-the-art techniques including single cell RNA sequencing (scRNAseq), 3D organoid cultures, and animal models.

As a bench scientist, this position requires basic biochemical, molecular, and cell biology skills including culturing primary cells and performing biological assays. This person will participate in the development of various antibodies and cellular therapies, designing and conducting experiments to characterize these therapeutics both in vitro and in vivo. Additional work includes performing literature searches, writing up methods and materials, results, figure legends and constructing figures for grant proposals, progress reports, and manuscripts.

This position also shares responsibilities for lab maintenance and operation. Applicant with 1+ years of lab experience with strong background in both molecular and cell biology techniques including subsequent biochemical and immunological analysis are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Standard laboratory techniques and skills (pipetting, cell culture, PCR, plasmid prep, etc.).
  • Conduct experiments, analyze experimental data and interpret results for publication.
  • Maintain inventory of lab supplies/reagents and contribute to maintenance and upkeep of lab equipment.
  • Keep a detailed notebook of all work-related activities including experimental procedures, results, and conclusions.
  • Contribute at an intellectual level by remaining up to date on appropriate research publications.
  • Present data and advances in the field to other members of the lab in both formal and informal settings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required with a major in biology or a related scientific field preferred.
  • Experience in 3D organoid culture, bioassay development, and animal studies is preferred.
  • Knowledge of techniques related to immunology or biology research is preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.
  • Must be a self-starter and a highly motivated team player with excellent attention to detail.
  • Have the ability to analyze information and use logic to address work-related issues and problems.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.Note that nights and weekends may be required to meet research needs.
