Overview

The Director of Planning and Consulting serves as a leader in project planning, facilitation, growth planning, strategic planning, and implementation principles. This position oversees large, complex, multi-disciplinary projects. The Director provides overall team management and is responsible for working with Senior Directors and Vice President to ensure that the work of the planning team is well coordinated with other groups across the Institute. The Director is responsible for the management and development of up to 6 Planning and Consulting team members.

Responsibilities

  • Directs multiple highly complex projects, with impacts at the Institute level.
  • Interacts independently with leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • Leads a structured approach to analyze complex issues, identify implications of various alternatives, generate options, and recommend solutions to stakeholders to reach desired outcome.
  • Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Significant contributor to Planning and Consulting staff development, as well as internal departmental process and performance improvement.
  • Develops and defines project infrastructure (work plans, timelines, resources, milestones, KPIs, etc.); anticipates, identifies, manages and resolves risks to project status, milestones, timelines; develops and presents updates/metric reports to leadership
  • Develops, and oversees development by others, of clear and effective meeting materials, presentations, and project collateral, ensuring highest levels of precision and value delivery.
  • Manages all aspects of stakeholder relationships throughout the project lifecycle, including project initiation, execution, and closeout.
  • Identifies and highlights likely business and financial impacts associated with program planning or expansion, as well as required implementation support key dependencies, issues, and risks to serve as input to prioritization and planning process.
  • Conducts impact analyses to assess Institutional/stakeholder readiness for change adoption and applies change management processes and tools to support adoption of change. Supports the design, development, delivery, and management of project/change related communications.
  • Oversees ad hoc research and due diligence relating to new projects and initiatives; translates business and competitive intelligence research back into projects.
  • On an ongoing basis, ensures the success of projects and relationships based on defined KPIs, milestones and partner feedback, ensuring that the team continues to perform against stakeholder needs and expectations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises up to 6 Planning and Consulting team members ranging from Associate to Senior Manager level
  • Hires, mentors, and advises, assigns, and evaluates work, reviews performance formally at least annually, recommends promotion and salary adjustments and takes corrective action.
  • Directs individuals and teams in organizing work, setting priorities and timelines, and determining and obtaining the resources required to meet those priorities.
  • Provides guidance to others on specific strategies to identify stakeholder needs and expectations and address them effectively.
  • Provides professional development opportunities for Planning Managers and other Department staff.
  • Develops standardized tools and templates, dashboards, and engagement letters to ensure effective project execution and optimal communication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in health care administration, business, or related field is strongly preferred
  • Minimum Experience: 10 years of experience in strategic planning, business planning, consulting, project management, healthcare administration, or similar field required.

  • Advanced planning, project management, facilitation, and organizational skills, with the demonstrated ability to drive multiple concurrent projects to completion in a complex, deadline-driven environment.
  • Advanced leadership and management skills, as well as the ability to work closely and effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Makes independent decisions and oversees actions of others; exercises substantial judgment on behalf of the Institute
  • Ability to distill or add complexity to data presentation based on the audience
  • Interacts with internal and external stakeholders on high-stakes matters
