About the Department

The 900+ positions of the Facilities Division service the students and staff of the University’s teaching, research/administrative space, and 2,240 acres of infrastructure. The Facilities Division provides design and building services, maintenance, custodial, landscape, solid waste removal, utility, mail, and motor pool services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The goal is to deliver cost-effective services to the University, and ensure completed projects and maintenance that conform to codes and regulations while minimizing University liabilities and disruptions caused by the maintenance, repair, building, and equipment modifications to the University.

Essential Job Duties

The Zone Manager’s overall function is to manage and oversee the work of housekeeping employees cleaning and sanitizing interior and exterior building spaces.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Assigning tasks and defining the areas to be cleaned and making individual area assignments for housekeepers to ensure a consistent, equitable, and balanced work assignment for each employee.
  • Developing work schedules and frequencies of task performance within each building and individual area according to required service needs.
  • Allocating resources (manpower, materials, supplies, and equipment) as appropriate to achieve highest quality at best cost and effective delivery of service.
  • Developing and managing an emergency and contingency plan that anticipates emergencies and special situations which ensures continuity in established standards and quality of service delivery.
  • Establishing and managing an inspection program that addresses the general and unique housekeeping requirements of each building which appropriately involves the housekeeper and occupants with a focus on occupant’s health and safety and building condition.
  • Generating and following up to work requests to correct building deficiencies and inappropriate conditions in occupant’s space as they relate to housekeeping matters.
  • The Zone Manager is also responsible for reporting discrepancies found within the building in addition to coordinating response to emergencies and inclement weather. The position will ensure staff use standard housekeeping equipment such as vacuums etc. to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Responsible for helping the night Zone Managers effectively implement a Special Projects Team to include After Hours policing and emergency calls for all assigned buildings cleaned nightly and all events on nights and weekends in receipts areas throughout NC State University.

Other Responsibilities

  • This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule.
  • This position may assist with snow and ice removal as directed by supervisors.
  • Conduct and attend meetings with university clients.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Experience/Education

High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Some positions may require Certification or eligibility for Certification.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Must be able to effectively operate a computer and drive a vehicle.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisor and the general public.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and other communications regarding assignments and other matters.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing 6-20 employees.

Required License or Certification

  • Valid DL required.
  • Valid NCDL within 60 days of hire.
