About the Department

The primary responsibility of the organizational unit is providing cleaning, sanitizing, and pest control services to over 10 million square feet of campus space. This service is provided through the utilization of over 320 staff members.

Essential Job Duties

This position’s overall function is utilizing standard floor care practices to maintain hard surface and carpeted floors throughout the campus.

Key responsibilities or duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Applies standard procedures, equipment and tools to strip and refinish hard surface floors in addition to extracting carpeted areas within scheduled buildings.
  • Utilize standard housekeeping equipment, tools and supplies to accomplish basic floor care tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, shower-scrubbing, stripping, finish application, and carpet extraction.
  • The position utilizes standard and specialized equipment and chemicals to accomplish these tasks.

Other Responsibilities

  • Utilizes truck-mount to address building floods and responds to various emergencies within buildings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Experience/Education

Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Special certification may be required for some of these positions.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 60 pounds continuously and 90 pounds momentarily.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisor and the general public.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and other communications regarding assignments and other matters.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing commercial floor care duties.
