Located on the beautiful campus of Notre Dame, this role serves to advance the University’s mission and development efforts in thoughtful and strategic ways. The Audit & Compliance Program Director ensures that the University remains an exemplary charitable institution. With a “big-picture” view of the gift management process from end-to-end, they will work with colleagues to identify and capitalize on process improvements with increased accuracy and efficiency.

By becoming a trusted advisor to ND Development colleagues, this person will increase team knowledge and confidence in the areas of gift data accuracy and compliance. They will operate with the detail-orientation and tactical skills of an Auditor and the strategic mindset and communication skills of a Consultant.

Key Objectives and Activities:

  • Brings a culture of compliance, accuracy, accountability, and fun.
  • Sets direction and manages goals for two direct reports.
  • Leads the next generation of audits, process improvement, and partnerships for the Gift & Data Management team.
  • Cultivates the partnership between the Controller’s Office, Department of Tax, and various offices on campus to ensure accurate recording of 17 pipelines that directly affect campus endowment and expendable funds.
  • Works closely with the ND Gift Agreement Advisor to support gift agreements and interact with Gift Planning and General Counsel.
  • Gives auditory oversight to all data entered into the gift system and the creation of new funds in partnership with the Controller’s office.
  • Serves as the ND Development expert for regulatory sanctions, including but not limited to: financial (endowment), tax, CASE (Intl Gift Counting Standards), NCAA, and Financial Aid.
  • Solves essential problems with research, fact-gathering from various specialized sources, and a “solutions” oriented approach within a given framework.
  • Takes responsibility for overall policy by establishing operating policies and procedures for the team, then has the ability to interpret, execute, and recommend changes to department policy.
  • Seeks counsel from campus partners, including the Ticket Office and Department of Tax.
  • Plans, designs, and implements programs, projects and studies with adaptability and EQ.

The ideal candidate for this role will have an advanced degree in the areas of CPA or CFP license; however, this is not a requirement.

LOCATION: Though we offer a flexible schedule, this position is located on the beautiful campus of Notre Dame, in South Bend, Indiana.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • 4 or more years of professional experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills that facilitate positive cooperation with the team and campus partners
  • Experience with legal research, gift data audits and accuracy, compliance, and drafting skills
  • Willingness and ability to work between Christmas and New Year’s

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of professional experience, including managerial experience
  • Working knowledge of auditory and compliance techniques, tax law and the general body of statutory, regulatory, and case law regarding data and gift management
