Job Description

The Montgomery College, Takoma Park/ Silver Spring, is currently accepting applications for possible openings as a part-time faculty member teaching in Introduction to Hospitality, Hospitality Law, Food and Beverage Cost Control, Supervision and Leadership, and other courses related to hospitality management.  We seek an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate engagingly.

  • The listing of a course in the schedule of classes as “TBA” does not constitute an assignment.
  • The hiring decision for part-time faculty involves an academic judgment and shall be determined at Management’s sole discretion.
  • During the academic year, part-time faculty at Montgomery College may teach no more than 11.5 ESH (equivalent semester hour) per semester and no more than 23 ESH per academic year.
  • During summer, part-time faculty at Montgomery College may teach no more than 10 ESH (equivalent semester hours) for both sessions combined.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach assigned courses related to hospitality management.
  • Teach various courses, including day, night, weekend, and accelerated sections.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Restaurant Management, Hospitality Business, Business Administration, Management or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of management experience in the restaurant, hotel, or hospitality-related industry.
  • Experience teaching or lecturing at the college level.
  • Successful candidates must be willing to teach classes on any of our three Montgomery college campuses or off-campus locations. And available to teach during regular working hours.
  • Successful candidates will demonstrate commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the College's strategic inclusion plan.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the community college philosophy and mission.
  • Willingness and flexibility to teach course sections as needed.
  • Ability to integrate technology into course delivery.
  • Ability to teach in a multicultural setting.

  • Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus)*.  Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools.  *If you do not have access to a personal computer, please notify the department chair during the interview. Subject to available funds, the college may be able to provide temporary access to resources.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching hospitality courses at the college level.
  • Master's Degree in Hospitality Management, Hospitality Business, Food Studies, Food Science, Event Management or MBA.
  • Five years of experience in upper-level management
