Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences is seeking a full-time faculty member to teach Sociology/Anthropology and other related courses. The ideal candidate will be teaching-focused and passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion with demonstrated success in pursuing equitable student outcomes. This is a tenure-track position to be filled for the Fall 2024 semester.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: 

  1. Teach five sections of Sociology/Anthropology per semester, including introductory and 200-level courses, to a diverse student body.  
  2. Develop, implement, and assess student learning outcomes and curriculum at the course, discipline, program, and college level.
  3. Integrate effective use of instructional technologies in both in person and distance learning environments.
  4. Serve as Academic Advisor to approximately eighteen (18) students (45 hours per semester).
  5. Hold a minimum of four (4) office hours per week (60 hours per semester).
  6. Participate in Department, Division, and College meetings.
  7. Be committed to department initiatives to support the College's mission and values.

 
Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's degree in Sociology/Anthropology or a related field.
  2. Evidence of using teaching strategies that support diversity, equity, and inclusion for students of diverse abilities, interests, and backgrounds.
  3. Demonstrated experience teaching introductory Sociology/Anthropology courses.
  4. Prior experience in distance education; demonstrated excellence in the use of educational technologies.
  5. Competency in using Learning Management Systems.
  6. Effective pedagogical and presentation skills in both face-to-face and distance learning environments.
  7. A demonstrated collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues.
  8. A secondary area of expertise such as Transnationalism, Gender Studies, Queer Studies, Ethnography, Africana Studies, American Indian Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Asian Studies, Social Problems, Environmental and Natural Resource Sociology, or another area related to Sociology/Anthropology.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Community college teaching experience.
  2. Ph.D. in Sociology/Anthropology or related field.

Additional Information:

COMPENSATION

Full-time, tenure-track, MCCC position with an anticipated Annual Salary Range of $51,678 - $63,819. Actual salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, determined by a formula-based classification system, consistent with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Includes participation in a comprehensive employee benefits program including option for membership in the Massachusetts State Employees' Retirement System.
