Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Under the direction of the Building Security Manager, the Building Security Shop Coordinator is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and operation of all new and existing physical security systems (intrusion detection, access control); manages and assigns Building Security work orders; provides supervision to staff assigned to install, maintain, repair & operate electronic security systems; provides consultation to campus community in specifying systems for capital and campus projects. The Shop Coordinator will work in the field as needed and is responsible for completed job assignments and any security contractor work done on campus.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the full performance of the job may be substituted for the education and experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Experience:
  • Three (3) years of experience leading a shop or crew of Security Technicians.
  • Six (6) years of experience in installation, operation, maintenance, and testing of electronic security systems, security cameras, mechanical locks, and related data communication equipment required

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university with an Electrical Engineering degree.
  • Five (5) years of experience supervising security technicians.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in programming alarm systems, troubleshooting of security access systems, and Lenel and DSC security systems preferred.
  • Knowledge in the design, installation and troubleshooting of physical and electronic security systems.
  • Expertise in access control and intrusion detection systems.
  • Basic understanding of door hardware and key/core management/production.
  • Basic understanding of IP networking.

Additional Certifications:

Must possess and maintain a driver’s license valid in the State of Maryland with fewer than 6 points. Must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation.

Physical Demands

Incumbent must be able to handle a variety of problems and situations. Incumbent is considered essential and is subject to a 24/7 span of operation. Incumbent must be able to carry tools, climb ladders and work in, on, around, and over fixed equipment and machinery, tight mechanical spaces; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies and/or exert force up to 50 lbs. Candidates may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job.
