Your Role

The People and Engagement HR: Connect team is a critical part of HR service delivery for all of Blue Shield of California (BSC) The team provides first level support to all Blue Shield of CA employees on a daily basis for both daily operations and employee-facing initiatives . The HR Specialist will report to the Manager, HR: Connect. In this role you will be assisting all employees on all things HR through enabling self-service, providing phone, chat and case-based support in addition to executing employee lifecycle transactions.

Your Work

In this role, you will:

  • Data Processing - Reviews all HRIS transactional process requirements on a daily/weekly and as needed basis and manages the approval or rejection process. Understanding of the core HR policies and processes to make quality and timely processing decisions. Escalates transactional process issues and advanced issues to management for review
  • Case / Call Management - Manages all incoming HR cases/calls requiring significant, HR Generalist knowledge and understanding a wide variety of HR processes, policies, and technical procedures such as questions pertaining to benefits, compensation, wellness programs, safety, security, and leave of absence
  • Understanding when there is a need to leverage other key business contacts as needed to resolve employee inquiries and related processes and deliverables (i.e., LOA, Benefits, Retirement, HR Tech, Payroll, Compensation, Employee Relations, Talent Acquisition, Eligibility, Performance Management, Wage Works, Benefits, Corporate Real Estate)
  • Requires critical thinking skills when reviewing a case. Consults with leadership on any possible trends or escalations. May become point of contact for reaching out to other HR Centers of Excellence.
  • Requires constant visibility to and understanding of the latest changes to the HR processes, policies, procedures which typically come in weekly and sometimes daily. Responsible for managing the cases with the utmost care, quality, and attention to detail, all while providing accurate information while enhancing the employee's experience with HR: Connect

Your Knowledge and Experience

  • Requires minimum of 5 years of relative experience. May require vocational or technical education in addition to prior work experience
  • Requires broad knowledge of operational systems and practices typically gained through extensive experience and/or education
  • Strong knowledge of HR principles, practices and regulations, with a demonstrated ability to apply them in a practical, solution-oriented manner
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Technical skills and experience with Microsoft office (especially Excel), Oracle HCM, UltiPro.
  • Must be self-motivated, solutions oriented, able to work independently, and values team collaboration.
  • Requires minimum 2 years of HR Service Center-related experience

Pay Range:

The pay range for this role is: $ 22.69 to $ 31.77 for California.

Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.
