Summary of Position

Reporting to the Director of the Aulbani J. Beauregard Center for Equity, Justice, and Freedom, the Assistant Director of Education and Outreach provides support, advising, advocacy, and outreach to students from historically excluded and underserved backgrounds at the University. The Assistant Director is responsible for planning, designing, and implementing educational programming, trainings, and workshops for students. The Assistant Director supervises student staff and interns and leads campus partners in the implementation of education and outreach initiatives.

The Assistant Director serves as an advisor and resource for students and diversity-based student organizations. The Assistant Director supports the Beauregard Center operations through project management, financial management, and other Center oversight initiatives. The Assistant Director is a fully on-site position that collaborates with students, colleagues, and other stakeholders to develop resources and implement initiatives in support of community, equity, and inclusion at the University. Standard working hours will be 8am-5pm with occasional weekend/evening work required.

  1. Bachelor’s degree and two years of related, full-time experience.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work with students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, first-generation students, students from low-income background, and students of diverse cultural, religious and spiritual backgrounds, and with all university students via inclusive practices and collaboration.
  3. Demonstrated experience with training and development.
  4. Demonstrated skills and ability to develop, coordinate, implement and facilitate diversity and social justice programs and opportunities from an intersectional approach.
  5. Demonstrated ability to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of programs, events, trainings, and workshops.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Personnel Development, Human Relations, or related fields, with experience in Student Affairs preferred.
  2. Experience working with students in a college setting.
  3. Supervisory experience, including experience supervising student staff
  4. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as well as independently. Experience with developing and managing stakeholder relationships.
  5. Experience with marketing and outreach initiatives. Experience using social media platforms.

Duty/Responsibility

Educational Programming. Plan, design, and implement diversity and social justice programs (e.g. discussions, developmental trainings, workshops, retreats, etc.) for students. Coordinate the annual Audre Lorde Summit for students including curriculum development and program assessment. Coordinate the new Leadership for Equity and Inclusive Excellence: Student Institute. Oversee educational training/workshop requests geared towards students. Support the facilitation of Safe Zone workshops. Support the development of educational resources such as resource guides, library guides, handouts, etc. Prepare annual program reports including an assessment of programs’ reach, efficiency, and effectiveness.

Duty/Responsibility

Communication and Outreach. Facilitate informational sessions about the Center at various university events such as new student orientation and first-year seminar classes. Coordinate open houses, receptions, and similar outreach events. Counsel, collaborate, and serve as a liaison with appropriate individuals and departments, on- and off-campus, regarding programs or services. Act as a resource to faculty, academic departments, and other student support services staff/departments for the purposes of broader, campus-wide education. Work collaboratively with students and colleagues across campus to develop resources and implement initiatives to grow community building, inclusion, and equity. Work in conjunction with department heads, faculty, and student support service colleagues to integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion issues into the classroom, res halls, Fraternity and Sorority Life, campus leadership programs, etc. to engage students in diverse issues and topics. Ensure staff presence is established at various diversity, equity, and inclusion-related events as needed. Provide outreach and support as an advisor and advocate for students assisting in their retention and success. Respond to bias incidents, current events, issues, and teachable moments as appropriate. Serve on committees, workgroups, and special projects, as needed. Serve as a confidential resource for disclosures of sexual misconduct.

Duty/Responsibility

Operational and Financial Management. Coordinate and/or administer the operational and/or financial activities associated with multiple programs and/or services as assigned, which may run concurrently. Develop budgets for assigned programs and monitor expenditures to ensure programs are within budget. Monitor the status of projects, including the organization and timelines of these projects. Provide final program/service financial and informational reports. Advise the Director on budgetary needs or discrepancies.

Duty/Responsibility

Leadership and Supervision. Supervise undergraduate social justice education student coordinator. Provide functional and/or administrative supervision of volunteer committee members. Supervise other paraprofessional staff as designated by the director.
