Overview:
As a Facilities Engineer you will be a key member of the team ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance, and improvement of our facility's diverse utility and process systems. Working with our existing staff, your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and process engineering, instrumentation, and automation. Collaboration with maintenance technicians, engineers, and external vendors will be essential to ensure the uninterrupted operation of these critical systems.
Responsibilities:
  • Technical Support: Provide technical expertise and guidance to the Facilities Maintenance team in diagnosing and troubleshooting complex utility system issues. Utilize your knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and control systems to identify root causes and recommend effective solutions.
  • Problem Resolution: Assist in the resolution of complex utility system issues, coordinating with internal teams, external vendors, and subject matter experts as needed. Participate in the development and implementation of corrective actions to address underlying problems and prevent recurrence.
  • Emergency Response: Provide support and respond promptly to situations involving utility system failures or disruptions. Coordinate with the Facilities Maintenance team to implement repairs and restore system functionality in a timely manner.
  • Maintenance Strategy: Working with the existing team, develop and implement comprehensive maintenance strategies for assigned utility systems, incorporating predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance techniques to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance the reliability, efficiency, and safety of utility systems through process improvements, equipment upgrades, and technology advancements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement best practices and innovative solutions.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of utility system performance, maintenance activities, and troubleshooting efforts. Prepare reports, incident summaries, and recommendations for management review and decision-making. Assist in the maintenance of the existing engineering libraries which include drawings, equipment TOPs, specifications, and utility capacity schedules
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of relevant regulations, standards, and industry best practices governing pharmaceutical facility operations and ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulatory requirements. Support audits and inspections as needed.
  • Training and Development: Stay abreast of current technologies and offer technical guidance and training to maintenance technicians and operations staff to enhance their understanding of facility systems and promote a culture of safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.
  • Project Management: Contribute to facility improvement projects, from concept development and design to implementation and commissioning. Coordinate with internal teams, external vendors, and contractors to ensure successful project execution.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Process, or relevant on-the-job experience
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., PE, EIT, CMM, PMP, etc.) are advantageous
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in facility engineering, maintenance, process control, or related roles, with a focus on mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and/or automation systems.
  • Experience in Pharmaceutical or other regulated industry is highly desirable.
  • Specialized experience in high purity water systems (RO/DI and WFI), clean room HVAC systems (up to Class A), high purity gas systems, and cryogenics is desirable.
  • Experience with process control systems, instrumentation, and automation technologies, such as PLCs, DCS, SCADA, HMI, and industrial networks desirable
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficiency in design, operation, and troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical systems, including HVAC, pumps, motors, generators, transformers, and electrical distribution.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail and a systematic approach to troubleshooting complex issues.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, simulation tools, and facility management systems is desirable.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards, such as NEC, NFPA, ASHRAE, API, ANSI/ISA, and ISO standards is desirable.
  • In rare instances, must be able to work off hours and weekends in support of Facilities shutdowns, Engineering projects, and/or mission critical repairs.

Will need to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds and work from a ladder up to 6 feet high.

Typical office setting in cubicles. Some work is performed in mechanical spaces, maintenance shops, and clean rooms. Noise level is moderate with consistent printer, telephone ringing, conversation, and occasional mechanical noise.

The base pay range for this role in California is $80,000 per year to $110,000 per year.
The range is what we reasonably expect to pay for this role. The range considers a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: geographic markets, business or organizational needs, skill sets, experience, training, licensure, and certifications.
