Computing Support Specialist

Job Description

COMPUTING SUPPORT SPECIALIST, Schwarzman College of Computing (SCC)-Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems (LIDS) (part-time, 20 hrs/wk.), to have primary responsibility for providing first and second-tier computer, server, and software support.  This will include hardware/software installation, operation, and maintenance for the faculty, researchers, students, and staff for LIDS, a growing and dynamic research laboratory. It may also include design of computing systems, including hardware and software, particularly for the emerging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) tasks that the laboratory is engaged in.  While reporting directly to the LIDS director of administration and finance, the incumbent will work closely with and take instruction from the LIDS system administrator on a diverse set of activities, some of which are routine and others are on an ad hoc basis.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; at least four years of computer user support experience; working knowledge of common software applications and processes; comfort navigating ambiguous requests and rapidly changing needs; discretion and judgment with confidential information/issues; ability to multitask, prioritize simultaneous tasks with varying degrees of complexity while meeting concurrent deadlines, work with flexibility in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment;  excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, customer service, and verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact and cultivate trust and build rapport with a variety of constituents, including departmental faculty, staff, and sponsors; and meticulous attention to detail.  Job #23851-6

Work conditions:  moving objects weighing 10 to 20lbs; lifting computer equipment; traversing long distances or moving from site to site; and positioning oneself to install/maintain equipment, including under desks.

Rate of pay:  $30.00 – 36.00/hour, depending on experience

This is a full on-campus/on-site position.

The fixed schedule for this position is Monday, 1:00 to 6:00 P.M. and Tuesday through Thursday, 12:00 to 5:00 P.M.
