Postdoctoral Associate

Job Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE), to join a project whose objective is to develop a thermal management platform utilizing solid-state heat conduction to achieve optimal building-level thermal comfort with minimal reliance on air/water thermal management systems, thereby minimizing energy consumption. Drawing upon the extensive expertise of the principal investigator (PI) in carbon-based materials for buildings, water filtration, and electronics, this project will focus on modeling materials thermal properties; module-level thermal performance; system-level integration; strategies for controlling solid-state heat transfer; and energy cost savings relative to building size, functionality, and location.  Will develop and implement multiscale building energy management models using EnergyPlus, spanning from materials to modules to entire buildings to achieve the outlined objectives; create flexible and extensible software modules for EnergyPlus to support the research and serve as a platform for future building design; and collaborate closely with the PI’s group in materials selection and module design and with an industrial sponsor for insights on materials sourcing, scalability, and impact in the building sector.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  Ph.D. in environmental or civil engineering, architecture, or a similar field; comprehensive knowledge of building energy modeling (BEM); work experience with EnergyPlus BEM software; and training in soft skills (i.e., project supervision, language learning with corporate entities, and proposal writing).  PREFERRED:  experience developing modules for EnergyPlus.  Job #23855

The initial appointment is for twelve months with the possibility of extension for a second year contingent upon performance and funding availability.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to submit both a CV and a cover letter detailing their experience, capabilities, goals, and how these align with the project's requirements.
