Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available in the Adeyemi Lab in the Basic Sciences Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.

The Adeyemi lab is interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms of genome maintenance – how the DNA repair machinery is deployed in response to different types of cellular insults, how these processes are dysregulated during genetic diseases, infections, aging and cancer, and how such knowledge can potentially be exploited toward novel therapies. We employ a variety of cutting-edge approaches from CRISPR and barcoded ORF library screens, to various biochemical and molecular biology techniques.

We are seeking an outstanding and highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to perform cutting edge research in the field of DNA repair and cancer genetics.

Responsibilities

There are several exciting projects that have already been set up in the lab, ranging from characterizing the role of various newly identified genes during replication stress, studying the role of RNA polymerase and RNA metabolism during DNA repair, to making use of genetic screening approaches to determine mechanisms of resistance to various chemotherapeutic drugs and to identify new potentially targetable synthetic lethal interactions in breast and ovarian cancers. The successful candidate will be expected to drive one or more of these projects. There are also opportunities for the candidate to move to new research directions as well as to contribute to mentoring and to thrive in a diverse, inclusive, supportive, creative, fast-paced and learning-focused environment.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A PhD in Biochemistry, Genetics, Cancer Biology, Virology or a closely related field.
  • A track record of publications and demonstrated independence
  • Excellent verbal and written communication as well as excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with cell culture, flow cytometry, basic molecular biology (PCR, cloning, western blotting, immunofluorescence assays) is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with functional genomic screens, protein purification and enzymology, DNA repair techniques, Python or R programming.
  • Expertise / background in the field of DNA repair is desirable but not required.

Application instructions

Interested candidates should apply by submitting a CV, a cover letter containing a brief summary of prior research accomplishments / future goals, and contact information for three references.

statement describing your commitment and contributions toward greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in your career or that will be made through your work at Fred Hutch is requested of all finalists.
