BRCC is accepting applications for the following positions: Campus Security Officer, Position # 29100249 (Full-Time, 12-Month, Classified) https://jobs.vccs.edu/postings/71614 This job includes full state benefits. Founded in 1967, Blue Ridge Community College has served the residents of the central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia for over 50 years. Its comprehensive program of instruction includes associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates in occupational/technical and college/university transfer programs. The College also provides non-credit workforce training and special interest classes for individuals, business, and industry. Reporting to the Public Safety Coordinator, Campus Security Officers will promote lawful behavior and protect the safety of students, faculty and staff, and visitors of Blue Ridge Community College in a professional courteous manner. Perform physical security of assigned buildings by controlling building access, monitoring security cameras, patrolling building and parking lots, reporting any safety hazards, reporting suspicious and criminal activity to the Public Safety Office, and enforcing BRCCs Public Safety Office policies and regulations. Campus Security Officers (CSO) may also be assigned to any special events and activities to provide security for that function. This may include controlling the flow of guest into buildings and parking lots, checking guest belongings, ensuring and collecting proper passes and tickets. CSOs will ensure all policies and procedures are enforced in a fair and equitable manner. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Patrols all assigned facilities and properties daily to help ensure the safety of all patrons Unlock and lock classrooms and maintain physical security of exterior doors Maintain access control of campus Maintain inventory and control of all sensitive items and equipment Keep visitor logs and daily crime reports up to date Daily inspections of all assigned facilities and properties to ensure the cleanliness of those properties and reports any issues found Conduct security inspections and prepares reports Respond and report on emergency situations and maintains documentation Check for proper operation of physical plant equipment Raise and lower flags Maintain communication with Public Safety personnel and Buildings and Grounds personnel. Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. KSA's/Required Qualifications Candidates must possess excellent customer service skills and will be assigned various Public Safety administrative duties, including but not limited to making and maintaining Student IDs and parking passes. REQUIREMENTS: Satisfactory completion of criminal history background check Willing to obtain a DCJS Security certification and Campus Security Officer training within 30 days of hire date. Ability to conduct multiple walking patrols per shift, including during inclement weather. Demonstrated ability to utilize a personal computer using current software programs and telecommunications equipment including fire alarm systems, security alarm systems, video surveillance system, and other security equipment. Excellent customer service skills Available to work a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, holidays, and shift work Ability to interact with coworkers to accomplish the goals of the department and possess the ability to handle multiple incidents simultaneously, set priorities, and professionally and calmly handle stressful situations on a daily basis Additional Considerations Current DCJS Certification as a Campus Security Officer. Knowledge/experience in the fields of security or law enforcement. First Aid, CPR and AED training certification. Leadership qualities and capabilities to include good communication and written skills.
