Job Description:

POSITION TITLE: Creative Designer (Marketing Associate)

DEPARTMENT: Marketing & Communications

PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River

REPORTS TO: Director of Marketing

POSITION STATUS: This is a full-time, non-unit position with benefits.

SALARY: $58,287.55 - $64,338.54, commensurate with education and experience.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES: 

The Creative Designer is primarily responsible for the college's graphic design and digital animation, among other duties. This individual must have experience creating purposeful, compelling, and strategic publications and marketing materials in digital and print formats. The Creative Designer uses creative, thoughtful and intentional designs and research to support the college's diverse, inclusive and equitable learning community. Serving as the lead visual communicator for marketing and communications projects, this individual must be effective, productive, and organized with the ability to work with a variety of in-house clients and external vendors from start to completion including managing the print process. This role serves as a critical member of the Marketing & Communications team working closely with all members in a creative fast-paced office environment.    

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create images and layouts using design software and technologies, such as but not limited to InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.  
  • Ensure final graphics and layouts are visually appealing and on-brand. 
  • Conceive, create, and design advertising and other collateral pieces that support strategic goals.  
  • Create and incorporate accessible graphic design practices including but not limited to print, web, use of typography and environmental design.  
  • Provide design and campaign material support for departments as directed.  
  • Collaborate with Facilities on environmental signs that use accessible typography, pictograms and symbols including but not limited to, external building signs, wayfinding systems, directories and wall mounted signs.  
  • Develop brand-centric toolkits to enable departments to create their own materials. 
  • Apply visual hierarchy and page layout techniques, including typography and photography to meet specific needs.  
  • Focus on the logic of displaying elements in interactive designs to optimize the user experience.  
  • Test and implement graphics across various media.  
  • Manage production process, including digital implementation, printing, PO process and mailing services to complete communications projects on time and on budget. 
  • Work independently in a fast-paced environment, prioritize and meet tight deadlines.  
  • Handle multiple projects and deadlines to create graphic design products such as but not limited to logos, billboards, posters, brochures, print and digital publications, digital advertising and social media designs.  
  • Provide photography for events, advertising and other applications.  
  • Maintain the college's Brand Central, including taking ownership of brand guidelines, logos and templates.  
  • Interface with the Marketing & Communications team to strategize cross-functional opportunities in advertising, social media, web/digital content, and public relations plans. 
  • Create and track analytic systems to test the effectiveness of publications.  
  • Demonstrate a sense of professionalism and consistently reflect Bristol's core values while interacting with members of the Bristol community.
  • Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions and work collaboratively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 


Requirements:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.

  • Minimum of an Associate degree.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in graphic design, including experience from concept to completion.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience shall be considered. 
  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency with current versions of Adobe Creative Suite including but not limited to Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, and Illustrator, as well as Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Proficient in Mac use, with working knowledge of PC.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the latest trends related to generational marketing and audiences, branding and integrated marketing, social networking, new media, and ROI.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to present creative concepts to varied audiences.
  • Strong portfolio of illustrations, animations or other graphics.
  • Working knowledge of the printing industry and experience with pre-press functions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in copy editing and information architecture, including excellent verbal and written communication skills, proofreading, strong attention to detail and an eye for layout.
  • Reliable transportation in order to travel to and from meetings, trainings, or campus and community locations as required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills, proven ability to form strong cross-functional relationships, and the ability to manage differing points of views across broad sets of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to convey information to a wide variety of internal and external audiences.  
  • The ability to advance, support and collaborate with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree.
  • Demonstrated experience in higher education in the area of graphic design, marketing, communications or a related field.
  • Robust understanding and demonstrated inclusion of access, equity, and student success practices.
  • Photography and photo editing experience.
  • Demonstrated web design and technology experience, including HTML.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of creating animations from own illustrations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the integration of graphic design into the latest channel trends, digital content trends, social media tools, web sites and applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fundamental principles of accessibility and inclusive design.
  • Demonstrated understanding of audio and video streaming, editing, and online media delivery technologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise with digital KPIs and best practices, as well as superior analytic skills and an ROI mindset.
  • Ability to communicate in a language in addition to English.
