Primary Purpose:

Installs, tests, programs, and repairs a variety of SCADA electronic substation and field metering equipment. Maintains telemetry and other computerized distributed control system equipment such as PLC's, RTU's, and SCADA system devices. Utilizes computers and related applications to program and configure equipment required for company operations. Works with Distribution and Transmission Control Centers to calibrate, troubleshoot and verify field metering and Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) operations. Works with various Telemetering systems and supporting equipment that provides data to EMS systems. Performs other related duties as required or assigned.


Required Qualifications:

  • Associate of science degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Five + years of Electronic Technician work experience required.
  • Must have knowledge of electronic circuit theory
  • Must have knowledge of currents, voltages and vector diagrams.
  • Must have knowledge of test equipment and procedures.
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access).
  • Must have knowledge of RTUs and control circuits.
  • Must have a valid California driver's license.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of computer literacy.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to attain and maintain authorizations and switching qualifications.
  • Must be able to perform various basic mathematical calculations.
  • Must be willing to travel to vendor sites for training.
  • Must be willing to travel to remote sites and perform equipment maintenance.
  • Must be willing to operate/use a bucket truck when needed.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and evenings when required.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to absorb formal training and schooling.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer experience with RTU's, PLC's and Telemetering equipment.
  • Prefer experience with utility 3 phase power systems.
  • Prefer experience interpreting electrical diagrams and schematics
  • Prefer experience with basic IP networking fundamental and serial communications
  • Prefer experience with industrial protocols (Modbus, DNP3.0, SEL, IEC61850)
  • Prefer experience with IEC 61131-3 architecture & programming languages
  • Experience with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories RTAC is extremely desirable.

Note: The salary for this position is governed by the terms of a collective bargaining agreement.
