Summary

The senior project manager provides high level project and operational support to the Office of the Chief Medical Officer and the Office of Clinical Affairs.  They will be responsible for leading initiatives and supporting executive sponsors on complex and variable work across the health system.  Must be an expert in process analysis, improvement, design, and implementation.  Creates process change by integrating new processes with existing ones and communicating these changes to impacted Business Systems teams. Recommends and facilitates quality improvement efforts. May provide guidance/training to more junior staff.  Defines and discerns key aspects of a problem and develops an integrated solution within a broad technical and business context of significant impact. They will be expected to solve resource issues and propose options when there are conflicts. The senior project manager is expected to be adaptable and willing to take on a broad variety of additional tasks to improve operational efficiency, make or prepare presentations to internal or external groups, organize, and participate on committees, and any other duties as assigned and function with a high degree of independence with minimal day-to-day supervision to deliver projects in a timely and effective manner. Work includes initiatives such as supporting the Chief Medical Officer in ongoing operations to the Faculty Services Agreement Program (FASA), etc. This position reports to the Strategic Advisor to the Chief Medical Officer within the Office of Clinical Affairs.

Responsibilities*

  • Provide direction and regular updates to the project team, ensuring the team is informed of all project changes, decisions and metrics that may affect the success of the project. Collaborate with senior executives, department representatives and subject matter experts to positively advance project objectives. Anticipate and identify potential problems or risks and present alternative solutions. Develop appropriate communication plans and strategies to ensure information is openly communicated.
  • Develop and oversee the processes associated with process and outcomes measurement, data tracking and data reporting. Ensure the utilization of clinical and administrative data to support the identification of quality issues and improvement opportunities, drive prioritization and enhance decision-making and monitoring. Perform ad hoc analyses as needed to support project planning and implementation. Provides analytical guidance to project team, recommending and taking action to direct the analysis and solutions of problems.
  • Defines project scopes and objectives. Develops detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports.  Drafts, edits, and formats complex correspondence, documents, and reports. Analyzes and summarizes data into easily understood formats.  Responsible for project tracking and analysis.
  • Coordinates and conducts project meetings.  Prepares background material for each meeting.  Follows up on decisions and work assignments resulting from meeting discussions.
  • Integral to change management process during project implementation, managing change requests, identifying barriers and mitigating those barriers to promote project success.
  • Ensures adherence to regulatory standards and reviews project deliverables.
  • Provide operational support to key stakeholders and leaders within the Office of Clinical Affairs.

Required Qualifications*

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field plus at least 4 years of applicable, increasingly responsible professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience leading change management initiatives.
  • Ability to manage cross-functional unit projects and/or teams, which includes project planning, task management, status reporting, etc.
  • Proven ability in data interpretation, problem analyses, methodology development, technical execution, and development of strategic recommendations to leadership.
  • Strong and effective communicator in both written and verbal forms, including demonstrated ability to present to audiences at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience developing a highly interactive and collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability in managing staff and leadership through change, and working within a complex and collaborative administrative structure.
  • Proficiency in the Windows computing environment, including MS Office Suite, MS Visio, etc.
  • Strong organizational skills, with ability to manage competing demands and prioritize for meeting project deadlines.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to build successful relationships across all levels.
     

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's degree in health care administration, business administration or other relevant field.
  • Experience managing projects in an Academical Medical Center setting.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Knowledge of UM Policies and Procedures.
     

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
