Summary

A Clinical Research Technician position is available at the University of Michigan Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics Department. The successful candidate will be expected to work under the supervision of the laboratory's faculty members on a complex, longitudinal study with parents and toddlers.

Responsibilities*

The lab conducts research on parenting, social-emotional development, and new technologies such as mobile devices and social media platforms. We pride ourselves on having a positive, inclusive work environment where staff growth is prioritized.

The Research Technician will be aiding the Radesky Lab in a longitudinal study with parents and children. This project involves in-person visits either on-site in our lab or to participant homes, where the Research Technician will be collecting informed consent, administering surveys, guiding parents and children through hands-on and iPad-based cognitive tasks, videorecording parent-child play tasks, and scoring and managing participant data. The Research Technician will also recruit participants, screen them for eligibility, schedule and complete study visits, and manage a REDCap database/complete data management tasks within a small team. The team of Research Technicians will be the main contact points for the participants. The Technician should be capable of making decisions independently, and know when to escalate issues to the Principal Investigator or the IRB.

The Research Technician will manage multiple flows of data, with the opportunity to learn database construction and data analysis. They will also attend meetings with our Community Advisory Board to discuss community outreach and collaboration, and contribute to community outreach projects such as workshops about family technology use. They will have the opportunity to help develop study manuals, scripts, and protocols, as well as to work directly with the Principal Investigator to assist creating posters, abstracts, and articles.

Candidates should be comfortable and have experience working with young children and/or infants, underserved and marginalized populations, and families. The Radesky Lab will provide a loaner vehicle for transportation, and Research Technicians will collaborate with each other to schedule study visits and transportation together.

Supervision Received:

This position receives both direct and indirect supervision and reports directly to the Principal Investigator and Research Supervisor. The Technician is expected to be able to complete job duties independent of direct supervision. Study protocols will take place with a team of other Technicians, without direct supervision from the PI or Research Supervisor.

Required Qualifications*

  • Associate degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is necessary.
  • Minimum 1 year of directly related experience in clinical research and clinical trials is necessary. (Please review SoCRA's Definition of a Clinical Research Professional for qualifying experience prior to applying.)

Or

An advanced degree in a health-related areas such as: Health Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Public Health, Health Care Administration, Clinical Research Administration, Social Work, Psychology, Epidemiology, Foreign MD.

Or

Minimum 3 years of human subject experience (clinical, lab or health regulations) such as related patientcare, related community health and wellness, related clinical information, and research.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Prior experience working with young children and infants, families, and vulnerable populations is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is
    desirable.
  • An understanding of medical terminology, experience in a large complex health care setting, ability to effectively communicate with staff and faculty of all levels, and knowledge of university policies and procedures is desirable.
